Blindly taking Isatis root can easily damage the spleen and stomach

"Isatis root sold out", "Can the massage method of Yingxiang prevent H7N9?", "Change to a vegetarian diet and firmly resist meat consumption", "Disposable masks are out of stock", "Nanjing sparrows died". . . . . This was the voice we heard most often at the beginning of this year's outbreak of the H7N9 avian influenza. Although self-prevention and careful protection are good, we strongly discourage taking medicine indiscriminately and blindly believing in some foolish prevention tips. Facts have proved that avian influenza is mainly transmitted through animals. Although there have been cases of human infection and death, there is still no evidence that avian influenza can be transmitted between people. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid of birds.

Blind use of Isatis root is not recommended to prevent H7N9

Is Isatis root really a "panacea"? The main function of Isatis root is to clear away heat, detoxify, cool blood and relieve sore throat. It is used for sore throat and dry oropharynx caused by excessive heat in the lungs and stomach; and for acute tonsillitis with the above symptoms. Experts say that the Isatis root medicines sold on the market are traditional Chinese medicines, which come in two types: sugar-containing and sugar-free. Their main ingredient is Isatis root. Isatis root has a significant effect in clearing heat sources in the body that can cause increased body temperature. Therefore, this medicine is mainly used to clear heat and detoxify, but it is not suitable for all people.

Experts say that from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, there are also people who are not suitable for using Isatis root. When TCM treats avian influenza with certain methods, rules and principles, the choice of drugs is not necessarily limited to one or two. Although Isatis root has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxifying, it is not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach.

Experts pointed out that H7N9 is still a new thing, and there is little research around the world on the effectiveness of existing drugs in its prevention and treatment. Therefore, it is not recommended to take Isatis root blindly.

Overdose of Isatis root can have serious consequences

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, Isatis root belongs to the category of heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs and can only be used to treat wind-heat colds. If the patient has a cold constitution, taking it will be harmful. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Isatis root is bitter and cold in nature, and can easily damage the spleen and stomach. Therefore, people who are diagnosed with spleen and stomach deficiency according to Chinese medicine should not take Isatis root, otherwise it will aggravate the condition, especially for children whose spleen and stomach functions are not yet fully developed. Taking too much Isatis root can easily cause symptoms such as indigestion. Healthy people should not drink it as tea, because the bitter and cold nature of the tea has a "draining" effect, and the "positive energy" in the body may be "drained". Long-term drinking will lead to a decline in physical fitness. Excessive use of Isatis root will have side effects on the intestines and even cause hemolytic diseases. In addition, some people who are allergic to drugs may experience symptoms such as dizziness, chest tightness, shortness of breath, vomiting, and itching if they take too much Isatis root.

Tips: Wash your hands frequently to prevent avian influenza

Although confirmed avian influenza patients have no history of contact with poultry, experts say that this disease is transmitted in two ways: one is contact transmission, and the other is airborne droplet transmission. Washing hands frequently, covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, opening windows for ventilation, and avoiding contact with and eating sick (dead) poultry and livestock can effectively prevent respiratory infectious diseases such as influenza.

In addition, it should be noted that hand washing should not only be done before meals and after defecation, but hands should be washed thoroughly after going from outdoors to indoors, and after touching money, poultry, etc. Washing hands with hand sanitizer or soap can remove the microorganisms on your hands, thus cutting off the transmission route through your hands. It can be said that citizens with good hand hygiene have a lower chance of contracting respiratory diseases under the same conditions. If you have fever or cough symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately.
