What causes a stroke?

Stroke is a disease among humans, but the incidence of this disease is actually not very high. However, stroke still has a certain incidence among the elderly population. Moreover, after a stroke, with current medical technology, there is no particularly good treatment plan for stroke. Therefore, knowing what causes stroke will be helpful for the treatment of stroke. But in general, relatively few people know the causes of stroke in reality.

Stroke causes great harm to the human body. It can be said that stroke can cause systemic diseases and is very troublesome to treat. The onset of stroke is very sudden, and most of the time it happens unintentionally, making it difficult to prevent. Next, let's first explain what causes a stroke?

1. Arterial damage: Any factors that cause cerebral arterial disease can become the cause of stroke:

1) Hypertension (blood pressure foods), arteriosclerotic thromboembolism.

2) Intracranial small vessel lesions: aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations.

3) Systemic arterial inflammatory diseases affecting cerebral arteries: Takayasu's disease; Buerger's disease; nodular arteritis; giant cell arteritis (Horton's syndrome); systemic lupus erythematosus.

4) Infectious arteritis: Leptospira; Treponema pallidum; fungal, Candida or secondary to suppurative encephalitis.

5) Arterial dissection: traumatic dissecting aneurysm; Marfan syndrome; pseudoxanthomatous dissecting tissue disease, etc.

6) Congenital cerebrovascular diseases: moyamoya disease; congenital arteriovenous malformation, congenital aneurysm;

7) Traumatic cerebrovascular disease

2. Abnormal blood rheology: increased blood viscosity and blood concentration.

3. Hemodynamic abnormalities: hypotension, radiation sickness.

4. Abnormal blood components: various emboli (detachment of mural thrombi in rheumatic heart disease with atrial fibrillation, decompression sickness, fat thrombi in long bone fractures, air emboli); abnormal red blood cells (polycythemia); abnormal platelets (increased platelet aggregation, thrombocythemia); abnormal white blood cells (leukemia); abnormal coagulation factors (DIC, hypercoagulable state).

5. Some secondary factors: tumors (cancer emboli, tumor necrosis or invasive arterial bleeding).

Stroke is a syndrome of both deficiency of the root and excess of the superficial symptoms. In the root, it is the dominance of yin and yang, and the disorder of Qi; in the superficial symptoms, it is the fanning of wind and fire, the obstruction of phlegm and turbidity, and the obstruction of blood. Common causes include worry and anger, excessive drinking, overeating, overindulgence, overwork, or careless living habits. Stroke can be divided into those affecting meridians and those affecting internal organs. For meridians affected, symptoms generally include numbness of the skin, deviation of the mouth and eyes, slurred speech, or hemiplegia, without mental disturbance. Common syndromes include: ① Wind evil enters the body and causes meridian obstruction. Accompanied by aversion to cold and fever, thin tongue coating and floating pulse. The treatment should be to dispel wind and dredge the meridians. The prescription used is Daqinjiao Decoction. ② Deficiency of liver and kidney yin and wind-yang disturbance type. Also accompanied by low back pain, tinnitus, red tongue and thin pulse. The treatment should be to nourish yin and extinguish wind, and the prescription used is Zhengan Xifeng Decoction. ③ Phlegm-heat in the viscera and wind-phlegm disturbing the upper part of the body. Accompanied by excessive phlegm, constipation, greasy tongue coating and slippery pulse. The treatment should be to clear the bowels and resolve phlegm, and the prescription can be modified from Xiao Chengqi Decoction. When the internal organs are affected, in addition to the symptoms affecting the meridians, there are also mental symptoms such as drowsiness or confusion. It can be divided into two syndromes: ① Closure syndrome. Symptoms include clenched jaws, clenched hands, and stiff limbs, which are mostly positive symptoms. Those who suffer from Yang obstruction will also have red face, hot body, greasy tongue coating and slippery pulse. The treatment should be pungent and cool to open the orifices, nourish yin and extinguish wind. The prescriptions used are Zhibao Dan and Lingyangjiao Tang. Those with Yin closure have pale face, dark lips, cold limbs and slow pulse. The treatment should be pungent and warm to open the orifices, eliminate phlegm and extinguish wind. The prescriptions used are Suhexiang Pills and Ditan Decoction. ② Lost the certificate. Symptoms include eyes closed, mouth open, slight snoring, and urinating with the hands. Most of them are deficiency syndromes, and the treatment should be to restore yang and consolidate the body, and the prescription used is Shenfu Decoction. Some stroke patients have sequelae, such as hemiplegia, aphasia, etc., which are related to the severity of the disease and whether the treatment and care are timely and appropriate.

There are many causes of stroke, and the causes mentioned above are the most common causes of stroke. Therefore, knowing these causes of stroke is very helpful for the prevention and treatment of stroke. Knowing the specific causes of stroke, our stroke patients can better find the right medicine for their condition, which is also very beneficial for the improvement of their condition.
