What to do if you have ammonia poisoning

Ammonia is a common gas and we cannot live without it in our lives, but we are also prone to ammonia poisoning, so we must do a good job of preventing ammonia poisoning. Once we have ammonia poisoning, we should seek treatment in time, otherwise it will easily lead to various diseases in our bodies and even lead to death.

Ammonia poisoning is a very scary symptom. We must do a good job of preventing ammonia poisoning. Once the symptoms of ammonia poisoning appear, we must seek treatment in time. Let’s take a look at the introduction to ammonia poisoning below.

1. The treatment of ammonia poisoning is mainly supportive care, and the key is to maintain the body's oxygenation.

2. Immediately move the patient away from the poisoning site, take off contaminated clothing, and keep warm. Give oxygen, artificial respiration and inject respiratory stimulants.

3. Keep the airway open. For patients with laryngeal edema, airway burns, and dyspnea, consider tracheotomy as early as possible. Have a suction machine ready. When there are no incisional instruments, cricothyroidotomy can be performed. At the same time, drugs such as diazepam, aminophylline, hydrocortisone, gentamicin, etc. are given to relieve spasms, keep the airways open, promote sputum discharge, reduce pulmonary edema, and control infection. For patients with mild symptoms, 3% boric acid can be used for nebulization inhalation.

4. Prevent and treat pulmonary edema. Use sufficient amounts of glucocorticoids for a short period of time; control fluid volume, provide appropriate diuresis, and reduce pulmonary edema.

5. Maintain oxygenation. Including nasal cannula oxygen inhalation, mask oxygen inhalation, etc., and positive pressure ventilation when necessary. Oxygenation was maintained at a target oxygen saturation above 93%.

6. For eye burns, immediately rinse repeatedly with clean water or 3% boric acid solution for at least 15 minutes, then give chloramphenicol eye drops or other antibiotic ointment once every 2 to 4 hours. If iritis occurs, 1% atropine solution can be used for eye drops. If eye edema is obvious, cortisone eye drops and antibiotic eye drops can be used alternately.

7. For skin burns, immediately rinse the skin with clean water, 3% boric acid solution, 2% acetic acid solution, or vinegar to neutralize the ammonia and eliminate the burn. If there are blisters, exudates, or ulcers on the skin, apply 2% boric acid wet compresses and chemical burn oil externally. People with extensive and deep burns require specialist treatment.

Above we introduced what ammonia poisoning is. We know that ammonia poisoning is a very scary phenomenon. Once we have symptoms of ammonia poisoning, we must actively seek treatment. The above article introduces in detail the various treatment methods for ammonia poisoning. I hope the above introduction will be helpful to everyone.
