In the "Inner Canon of Medicine", traditional Chinese medicine calls diarrhea "xie". During the Han and Tang dynasties, it was mostly called "xiali". After the Song Dynasty, it was called "xiexie". According to the cause of diarrhea, the site of onset, the characteristics of the onset, the shape of stool, etc., it is divided into: damp diarrhea, fire diarrhea, summer diarrhea, heat diarrhea, food diarrhea, gas diarrhea; stomach diarrhea, small intestine diarrhea, large intestine diarrhea, kidney diarrhea, rectal diarrhea; watery diarrhea, slippery diarrhea, etc. Generally, loose stools are called "diarrhea" and watery stools are called "pox".

The dangers of diarrhea

Diarrhea can cause water and electrolyte imbalance and acid-base balance disorder. Severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and acidosis can cause serious damage to the body and may be life-threatening if not treated in time.

Causes of long-term diarrhea

(1) Improper diet: Eating too much, too oily, or too cold food, frequently changing to new food, or eating spoiled food contaminated with bacteria or toxins can easily cause diarrhea in children. .

(2) Adverse stimulation: Cold, overheating, bad mood, excessive stress or fright can also cause diarrhea.

(3) Allergic diarrhea: Diarrhea caused by eating foods that are prone to cause allergies.

Western medicine treatment

1. Antibiotics: For those who are clearly diagnosed with bacterial infection, antibiotics should be used in a timely manner.

2 Astringent and antidiarrheal drugs: Use sodium subcarbonate, aluminum hydroxide gel or compound camphor tincture for symptomatic treatment.

3. Drugs to relieve intestinal spasms: Use compound phenoxylate, atropine, propantheline or tincture of opium for treatment.

4. Physical therapy: Use field effect therapy device to treat the abdomen. However, bacterial infection needs to be excluded.

5. Hot compress: Placing a hot water bottle on the abdomen can help treat diarrhea.
