Summer is like this, children are the real love

If a child has a weak constitution and is prone to catching colds and getting sick, he or she will easily suffer from indigestion, constipation, and diarrhea, and will easily stop eating. This summer is the best time to change your physical condition. Moxibustion at home is simple, convenient and effective. You may as well give it a try. However, super careless parents must pay attention to the moxibustion time.

1. Why is summer suitable for moxibustion?

In summer, Yang energy is strong, and the human body's Yang energy also reaches its peak of the four seasons, especially in the dog days of summer. The skin pores are open, and acupoints are selected for moxibustion. In summer, the skin pores are open and closed, and moxibustion can easily penetrate into the acupoints and meridians from the skin, and can reach the diseased area directly through the meridians through Qi and blood. Therefore, treating winter diseases in summer can often achieve the best results.

2. What problems of children are suitable for moxibustion?

People with dull complexion, emaciation, indigestion, poor appetite, diarrhea, frequent urination, slow development, susceptibility to colds, asthma, allergies, and short stature are all suitable for moxibustion.

3. Moxibustion acupoints for daily health care

Shenzhu Point: Shenzhu Point is where the Qi of the Du Meridian is emanated, and is named Shenzhu, which implies the pillar of the whole body. It has the effects of promoting yang and regulating qi, dispelling wind and reducing fever, clearing the heart and calming the mind, relieving adverse reactions and stopping coughs. It is known as the "moxibustion point for all pediatric diseases" and is the first choice acupuncture point for children's daily health care.

Location: Shenzhu point is just below the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra (the third vertebra below the highest vertebra in the center of the shoulder and back) on the baby's back. To locate the point, have the baby sit naturally with shoulders flat and head slightly lowered forward, and apply moxibustion at the bone gap in the sunken third thoracic vertebra.

Mingmen Point: Mingmen Point is dominated by the innate Yang Fire. The growth and development of the body originates from the innate Mingmen Fire. It has the function of stimulating growth and development and strengthening the kidneys. For children who are born with weak constitution and slow growth and development, this point can be treated with moxibustion.

Location: Located between the spinous processes of the second and third lumbar vertebrae.

Note: The above acupoint health care is performed when the child is in good health. If the child is unwell, you need to follow the doctor's advice.

Special precautions for moxibustion in children:

Children's skin is less sensitive to warmth and pain, and they are active and cannot cooperate. Especially for children who cannot speak, you must be extra careful when performing moxibustion. Adults should put their hands on the moxibustion area on the child to feel the strength of the moxibustion temperature to prevent burns. In addition, if moxibustion is performed with moxa sticks, you must pay attention to the moxa ash.

4. Length of moxibustion time

The time for moxibustion for children depends on their age and degree of cooperation.

Generally speaking: for children under 2 years old, moxibustion should be performed on each acupoint for about 5 minutes until the heat becomes warm. For children aged 3-5 years old, you can use moxibustion on each acupoint for 5-10 minutes, or you can use circular moxibustion on the Dazhui and Shenzhu points for a total of 10-15 minutes. As children grow older, the moxibustion time can be appropriately extended. Time interval: moxibustion every other day or every 3 days, for 1-3 months, and then rest for 7-10 days before moxibustion again.

5. How to avoid getting a sore throat when giving moxibustion to children?

1. Choose good moxa sticks: When choosing moxa sticks, the key is to choose ones that smell good, and the moxa smoke after being lit is also soft and comfortable. The commonly used ratio is 20:1 or 15:1.

2. Massage before moxibustion: Children who love massage rarely get angry! When giving moxibustion to the Mingmen and Shenzhu points of a child, you can stroke the child from top to bottom and then use the spinal massage method. This will allow the moxa fire to circulate better. Then stroke the tips of all ten fingers and ten toes. This is because the circulation of Yang Qi goes to the limbs. As long as the Yang Qi is not stagnant and circulates well, it will not be easy to get angry.

3. Moxibustion with heart: Only by doing moxibustion with heart can you calm your mind, relax, and put yourself in a state of unity of heart and fire. The heart of the person doing the moxibustion can melt into the fire, and the heart can follow the fire into the body being moxibustioned. This will definitely have a good effect.
