Buyang Huanwu Decoction is the name of a Chinese medicine prescription. It is a blood-regulating agent that has the effects of replenishing qi and blood, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and unblocking meridians. It is mainly used to treat qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome of stroke. Stroke causes hemiplegia, deviation of mouth and eyes, slurred speech, drooling from the corners of the mouth, frequent urination or incontinence, pale tongue, white fur, and slow and weak pulse. It is commonly used in clinical medicine to treat complications of brain injury, coronary heart disease, polio complications, and hemiplegia, paraplegia, or weakness of one upper or lower limb caused by other reasons, which are caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis.

Rhyme

To replenish Yin and restore Yang, use white peony root, angelica dahurica, and earthworm to open the meridians. Four liang of Scutellaria baicalensis is the main medicine. For blood stasis, use pomegranate red.

Main

Fang Yi

The syndrome of this prescription is caused by Qi deficiency, Qi deficiency and blood stasis, and multiple blood stasis after a stroke. Treatment should focus on replenishing Qi and blood, with promoting blood circulation and unblocking meridians as auxiliary measures. This prescription contains raw Astragalus membranaceus, which nourishes the original Qi, boosts Qi, promotes blood circulation, removes blood stasis and unclogs the meridians, making it the main medicine. Angelica root can invigorate blood circulation and dredge collaterals without damaging blood, and is used as a ministerial drug. White peony root, notopterygium root, peach kernel, safflower and angelica root work together to invigorate blood circulation and remove blood stasis; earthworms relax muscles and activate blood circulation, and are good at moving around, circulating throughout the body to exert medicinal effects, and are also adjuvants.
