The efficacy and function of Tripterygium wilfordii

1. Immunomodulatory effect

When a patient develops lupus, there will be problems with his or her immunity because lupus is an immune disease.

Treatment with Tripterygium wilfordii often produces significant therapeutic effects.

Blood tests found that as the lupus condition improved, the immunological abnormalities that originally existed in the blood would improve to varying degrees.

In vitro tests conducted in the laboratory also confirmed that the bioalkaloids in Tripterygium wilfordii can inhibit the formation of antibodies.

2. Anti-tumor effect

Animal experiments and some clinical studies have shown that Tripterygium wilfordii can inhibit the rapid division and proliferation of tumor cells, and therefore has an anti-cancer effect.

3. Improve microcirculation

Tripterygium wilfordii can dilate blood vessels, thereby increasing blood flow; it can reduce blood viscosity, improve abnormal platelet aggregation and adhesion, and thus improve the "blood stasis" phenomenon in microcirculation.

4. Other functions

It has been observed that Tripterygium wilfordii also has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, antipyretic and analgesic effects.

In addition, it has been found that tripterygium wilfordii glycosides have anti-HIV effects.

In view of the above-mentioned effects, Tripterygium wilfordii started to be used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and was gradually extended to the treatment of many skin diseases.

For example, it has different degrees of therapeutic effect on leprosy reactions, lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, mixed connective tissue disease, Sjögren's syndrome, erythema multiforme, various types of vasculitis, rosacea, etc.

Clinical treatment has also confirmed that it has a good effect on various types of psoriasis.

However, due to the toxic side effects of Tripterygium wilfordii, it is only used for arthritis and pustular psoriasis.
