What are the complications of ankylosing spondylitis? Is it serious?

No matter what disease it is, if it is not treated in time, there will be many adverse consequences. The worst result is not that the disease worsens, but that the disease eventually leads to many complications. So what are the complications caused by ankylosing spondylitis?

1. Lung lesions: When ankylosing spondylitis develops to a more serious stage in the later stages, the range of motion of our lungs is restricted due to the foot shell, which will result in two upper lungs. The consequence of this is that our lungs, especially the apex of the lungs, will develop lesions and even cavities.

2. Iritis: More than a quarter of patients with ankylosing spondylitis will suffer from iritis. This probability is directly proportional to the duration of ankylosing spondylitis, that is, the longer the duration of ankylosing spondylitis, the higher the probability. However, this probability has no direct relationship with the severity of ankylosing spondylitis.

3. The heart will develop lesions: When suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, the workload on our heart will increase. The probability of developing this complication is directly proportional to the patient's age and duration of illness. That is, older patients or those who have suffered from ankylosing spondylitis for a long time should be more careful.

4. Osteoporosis: The probability of this complication is not high, and only a small number of patients will suffer from osteoporosis due to ankylosing spondylitis. If you have osteoporosis, you must be careful, because you are particularly prone to fractures at this time. Even if the injury is not serious but just some very minor injuries, fractures may occur.

5. In addition to the above complications, kidney damage, prostatitis and ear lesions may also occur.
