What is the difference between rectum and colon?

The colon and rectum are different. The colon is divided into four parts, including the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon. The rectum is a section of the large intestine that starts from the edge of the anus and extends upward for 15 centimeters. There is usually fat around the rectum.

The colon continues to the cecum in the right iliac fossa and connects to the rectum at the level of the third sacral vertebra. The colon is divided into four parts: ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon. Most of it is fixed to the posterior abdominal wall. The arrangement of the colon resembles the English letter "M", surrounding the small intestine. The diameter of the colon decreases from 6 cm at its beginning to 2.5 cm at the end of the sigmoid colon, which is the narrowest part of the colon lumen.

The rectum is a section of the large intestine that extends 15 cm upward from the anus. The rectum is surrounded by fat, has no longitudinal bands, and is located dorsal to the bladder and reproductive organs. The main arterial blood supply to the rectum is the superior rectal artery from the inferior mesenteric artery, the middle rectal artery from the internal iliac artery, and the inferior rectal artery from the internal iliac artery. Most rectal lesions can be diagnosed through digital rectal examination, while colon lesions require electronic colonoscopy to be diagnosed.

There is a difference between the colon and the rectum. They are not the same thing. The colon continues to the cecum in the right iliac fossa. The part of the rectum above the pelvic diaphragm is called the rectal pelvis. The lower part of the pelvic intestinal cavity is enlarged and called the rectal ampulla. After comprehensive treatment such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, the tumor of cancer patients may have shrunk or disappeared, but the body is affected by the invasion of cancer cells and the side effects of various treatments. At the same time, regular Chinese medicine anti-cancer consolidation treatment can be used to consolidate the results and effectively control recurrence and metastasis. Diversify the food, balance the nutrition and medicine, avoid hard or spicy food, avoid fish, shrimp, crab, beef and mutton, eat more fungi, and the diet should be nutritious.
