Speaking of liver cancer, Ding Dang first thought of a long list of names, such as Fu Biao, Lu Yao, Luo Wen, Shen Dianxia, Wang Guozhen... These celebrities are not short of money and have access to the best medical services, but they still lost their lives. This shows how serious liver cancer is. However, the deeper reason is that the liver cancer that you can detect is often: It sounds scary... Why is liver cancer so serious? Who is likely to be infected? Today Ding Dang invited Dr. Wang Xiaoman from the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery to talk to everyone. Unfortunately, the early symptoms of liver cancer are not obvious. There are various methods circulating on the Internet for diagnosing liver cancer based on only one or two symptoms. Basically, none of them are reliable because the early symptoms of liver cancer are really not obvious. Why? This starts with the characteristics of the internal organs. Many of the human organs have a magical function: only a portion is enough. The kidney is a common example. As long as one quarter of a kidney is needed to keep the human body functioning, there are all kinds of rumors about selling kidneys. The same is true for the liver. A healthy liver also only needs about 1/4 of its capacity for the human body to function normally. Therefore, in the early stages of liver cancer, liver function is often sufficient, so the human body is likely to have no obvious abnormalities. I have seen many patients whose liver cancer was not diagnosed until their tumor grew so large that it bulged their stomach. Even at this time, the patient's liver function may be normal. In short, to determine whether you have liver cancer, you still have to rely on regular physical examinations and further examinations. People who are prone to liver cancer often have five characteristics: 1. Have had hepatitis B In our country, about 90% of liver cancer patients have been infected with hepatitis B virus. However, foreigners are different from us. Liver cancer patients infected with hepatitis C virus are more common in Western countries. So, strictly speaking, people who have been infected with the hepatitis virus should be more careful. 2. Liver cirrhosis The next step after cirrhosis is often liver cancer, especially in patients who have already been diagnosed with cirrhosis. 3. There is a liver cancer patient in the family Let me first clarify here that liver cancer is not a "genetic disease" as everyone imagines. Genetic diseases refer to diseases caused by gene mutations or chromosomal aberrations. Simply put, they are inherited from parents to children and are mostly congenital. The hereditary nature of liver cancer is called "familial clustering phenomenon". The most common example of familial clustering is that a mother with hepatitis B "passes" the hepatitis B virus to her child when she gives birth. But don't worry too much. Even if the mother is a carrier of hepatitis B virus, the disease can be well controlled as long as the child is given hepatitis B immunoglobulin and hepatitis B vaccine in time. 4. Over 40 years old The peak age for liver cancer is after the age of 40, namely men over 40 and women over 50, with the incidence rate in men being higher than that in women. 5. Alcohol addiction Many people know that people who drink alcohol for a long time are prone to "alcoholic liver disease". Alcoholic liver disease is not easy to deal with, and it has the potential to develop into cirrhosis. What should we do if these 5 situations really happen? The first thing to do, of course, is to take measures. For example, if you have hepatitis, you should control it well, and if you have bad living habits, you should actively improve them. It is also important to have a good physical examination to detect and treat the disease early. Even if liver cancer occurs, the treatment effect is good if it can be detected in the early stages. If you are one of the first three types of people, it is recommended that you have an abdominal B-ultrasound examination + serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) test every 6 months; If you belong to the latter two categories, it is recommended that you have a physical examination once a year, and then consider the above examinations if any abnormalities are found. How can ordinary people prevent it? Ordinary people who do not have liver diseases such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and cirrhosis are less likely to get liver cancer, so there is no need to worry too much. However, an unhealthy lifestyle is also an important factor in causing liver cancer, so we still have to start from the little things: 1. Get rid of the habit that harms your liver the most: alcohol abuse Especially for those who feel uncomfortable if they don’t drink for a day, the mouth may feel comfortable but the liver cannot bear it. In a nutshell: don't smoke, drink less (preferably not drink), eat a balanced diet, and exercise regularly; these three are essential for preventing any type of cancer. 2. Do not eat moldy or spoiled food Moldy food contains the carcinogen "aflatoxin", which is closely related to liver cancer, so be careful. 3. Regular physical examinations and appropriate cancer screening Since liver cancer cannot be cured, early detection and early treatment are the best ways, so find some time to do a physical examination! Finally, a warm reminder from Ting Dang: caring about your family’s health is actually caring about your own health. From the perspective of cancer prevention, understanding their situation can help us better assess our own cancer risk. |
