Clinical manifestations of nerve root adhesions

Clinical manifestations of nerve root adhesions

There are many reasons for nerve root adhesion. The most common one is secondary edema after surgery, which may cause adhesion. When this happens, the patient must strengthen care, adopt the supine position, and it is best to raise the lower limbs. Pay attention to diet and maintain an optimistic and cheerful attitude. Through certain conditioning and training, you can achieve good recovery.

Clinical manifestations of nerve root adhesions

This disease is caused by secondary edema of tissue after surgery, which re-damages the damaged nerves and leads to aggravated nerve damage. According to the time of onset and symptoms, it is too early to diagnose it as cauda equina adhesion. The condition should be diagnosed as secondary nerve paralysis or nerve function damage.

After spinal canal dilatation, most patients think that everything is fine and wait for recovery on its own. This is wrong. From the perspective of the mechanism of nerve function recovery, surgery only restores the caliber of the spinal canal, but nerve function recovery depends on the nutrition of drugs and the excitation and activation of nerve function to control the normal regulation of limb movement, sensation, pain, temperature and other functions.

Avoid nerve root adhesion after lumbar disc herniation

1. The patient lies on his back and raises the straight leg of the affected lower limb as high as it can be raised. Then, hold the back of the thigh of the affected lower limb with both hands, further raise the affected lower limb to the maximum limit, and maintain for 3 to 5 seconds, then return to the original position. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

2. The patient lies on his back and raises the straight leg of the affected lower limb to the maximum extent. Then hold a towel with both hands and put the middle part of the towel on the sole of the foot of the affected lower limb. Pull the towel with both hands at the same time to move the dorsum of the foot toward the body to the maximum extent. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds and return to the original position. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

3. The patient lies on his back at home with the door open, with the affected leg straight and raised and leaning against the door frame. Hold the knee joint of the affected leg with the same hand and press down hard to straighten it. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds and then return to the original position. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

4. The patient stands upright, lifts the affected lower limb and places it on a square stool, supports the affected lower limb with both hands, and gradually leans the upper body forward to the maximum limit, maintains for 3 to 5 seconds, and then returns to the original position. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

Nerve root adhesion is a common secondary problem of lumbar disc herniation. Patients with nerve root adhesion have significantly reduced lumbar flexion activity in standing position, but the limitation of lumbar flexion activity in sitting or supine position is not obvious; at the same time, the degree of raising of the affected lower limb in the straight leg raising test is reduced. For nerve root adhesions, stretching exercises mainly based on straight leg raising are used.
