What infectious diseases are transmitted through saliva? It turns out that these diseases

Many people believe that there is only a small amount of saliva and occasional contact with it will not cause any disease. This is a wrong way to think. Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, AIDS, etc. can be transmitted through saliva, so you must be careful.

1. Hepatitis A

The saliva of hepatitis A patients is contagious because saliva collected from patients with acute hepatitis A, whether orally or intravenously inoculated into chimpanzees, causes the chimpanzees to contract hepatitis A. Therefore, it is believed that the hepatitis A virus can be transmitted through saliva.

Hepatitis A can also be diagnosed using saliva.

Some people abroad have used radioimmunoassay to detect hepatitis A virus antibody immunoglobulin m in saliva collected from patients in the acute phase of hepatitis A or those recently infected with hepatitis A virus, as well as in saliva specimens from people who developed jaundice within the past 6 weeks. The advantage of using this method to diagnose hepatitis A is that obtaining specimens is non-invasive, does not cause any pain to the patient, and can be obtained at any time, especially if young children are willing to cooperate.

2. Hepatitis B

Theoretically, hepatitis B virus (HBV) cannot be transmitted through saliva, but this does not mean that there is no possibility of transmission. Years of clinical research have confirmed that the saliva of patients with hepatitis B virus contains hepatitis B virus. Although the content of hepatitis B virus in the saliva is very small, complete hepatitis B virus particles can still be detected in the saliva.

In short, everyone needs to understand that the hepatitis B virus can be detected in the saliva of hepatitis B patients. According to the characteristics of hepatitis B virus transmission, if saliva containing hepatitis B virus comes into contact with the intact skin and mucous membranes of a healthy person, it will not be contagious. However, if a healthy person has oral ulcers, it may be contagious.

3. AIDS

Kissing generally does not cause infection. However, if the healthy person has wounds or cracks in his or her mouth, and the AIDS patient also has cracks in his or her mouth, and the two kiss, the AIDS virus may be transmitted through the blood. Sweat cannot transmit HIV. Objects that have come into contact with AIDS patients cannot spread the AIDS virus.
