Psychological needs and adjustments of the elderly

Psychological needs and adjustments of the elderly

In fact, when the elderly reach a certain age, they may feel lonely because they have less time. The mental state of the elderly is relatively easy to understand. All people around them need to do is pay more attention to their daily lives and chat with them more.

1. Fear of loneliness : This is the most common psychological abnormality among the elderly. Such elderly people want others to care for them, but are afraid of excessive psychological gap and disappointment due to excessive expectations. Therefore, they often refuse to interact with others, and thus become lonely in behavior and withdrawn in temperament, and become increasingly distant from the people around them.

2. Depression: Some elderly people are psychologically fragile. They are both afraid and helpless in facing the objective fact of aging. If this mentality is not adjusted in time, it can easily lead to depression and loss of interest in life. They often feel inferior and self-blame, and even complain and sigh. In severe cases, they may have suicidal tendencies and behaviors.

3. Love of fantasy : Due to the gradual aging of the body, some elderly people’s desire for longevity will become stronger. As a result, they often use fantasy to deceive themselves in order to gain temporary psychological comfort, such as listening to others' compliments about their health.

4. Extreme cognition: This emotion can manifest itself in two opposite tendencies. One tendency is to deny oneself due to aging and to see oneself as useless. Another tendency is to demand higher from others as one ages, always hoping to be respected, cared for and taken care of by others without considering their actual conditions and abilities.

5. Suspiciousness: Some elderly people are suspicious because of their illness. They are often suspicious even when they are not sick, and even more suspicious when they are sick. Even if they have some minor injuries, they still think they are terminally ill and incurable.

6. Fear of death: These elderly people are afraid to talk about death, dare not visit the sick, are afraid to pass by cemeteries and hear funeral music, and even see a dead animal will cause them great shock and they dare not look it in the face.
