How to prevent chronic colitis symptoms

How to prevent chronic colitis symptoms

Chronic diseases often do not have obvious symptoms, and chronic colitis is even more difficult to show very prominent symptoms because the disease occurs in the colon. Although the symptoms of chronic colitis are mild, they last for a long time, so if you find yourself showing some gastrointestinal problems for a long time, it is recommended that you consider going to the hospital for further examination.

1. Symptoms of chronic colitis

Chronic colitis generally presents with symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and is also accompanied by abdominal distension, weight loss, fatigue, intestinal rumbling, insomnia, and nightmares.

Constipation in colitis patients is manifested by bowel movements once every 4-5 days, and the feces are like sheep dung. In severe cases, bowel movements cannot be relieved without taking laxatives.

Diarrhea is a common symptom in patients with colitis, usually with mucus and bloody stools. Mild patients have diarrhea 3-4 times a day, while severe patients have diarrhea dozens of times a day or diarrhea and constipation may occur alternately.

People with mild colitis do not experience abdominal pain, only abdominal discomfort. In severe cases, there will be pure pain or dull pain in the bilateral abdomen and bilateral lower abdomen.

A small number of patients with proctitis will experience bloating and pain in the bladder area and heaviness in the coccyx, which can easily be misdiagnosed as urinary tract infections such as prostatitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Other symptoms include loss of appetite, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting and liver enlargement, and systemic symptoms include fever and anemia.

2. Prevention of chronic colitis

As long as patients with chronic colitis receive timely treatment, the possibility of developing cancer is not high. Gastrointestinal diseases are usually caused by microbial infections, chemical poisons or drugs, so it is key to maintain good hygiene habits in your daily diet and prevent infection.

3. Dietary prevention of chronic colitis

In terms of diet, you should also pay attention to eating less fried, pan-fried and fatty foods, and control the amount of cooking oil used. At the same time, protein and vitamins should be supplemented. Eat small meals frequently to increase nutrition and improve symptoms. If chronic colitis causes dehydration and low sodium, you should replenish your body with light salt water and drink vegetable leaf soup to replenish water, salt and vitamins. In daily life, we should avoid catching cold and control our emotions. Stimulation or tension can also irritate the stomach and intestines. During the attack and remission periods of chronic colitis, you should avoid eating beans and bean products, wheat and pasta products, as well as garlic, leeks, preserved eggs, cabbage, peanuts, melon seeds and other gas-producing foods. Because these foods will increase the gas in the gastrointestinal tract, affect gastrointestinal motility, induce disease, and even aggravate symptoms.
