What is the TCM constitution testing method?

In today's life, traditional Chinese medicine is favored by many people. In fact, there are many kinds of TCM constitutions. Depending on each person's environment and lifestyle, the constitution will naturally manifest differently. Let us introduce the TCM constitution test below.

There are nine types of constitutions in Traditional Chinese Medicine: blood stasis constitution, special constitution, qi stagnation constitution, balanced constitution, damp-heat constitution, phlegm-damp constitution, qi deficiency constitution, yin deficiency constitution, and yang deficiency constitution. Everyone lives in a different environment, has a different daily life, and has a different physical constitution. Only by recognizing your own physical constitution can you prescribe the right medicine.

Physical Determination

Peaceful (Type A)

Overall characteristics: Harmony of yin and yang, qi and blood, with moderate body shape, ruddy complexion, and abundant energy as the main characteristics.

Physical characteristics: well-proportioned and strong.

Common manifestations: moist complexion and skin color, thick and shiny hair, bright eyes, bright nose, good sense of smell, rosy lips, not easily fatigued, abundant energy, tolerance to cold and heat, good sleep, good appetite, normal bowel movements, light red tongue, thin white fur, and a gentle and strong pulse.

Psychological characteristics: easy-going and cheerful personality.

Tendency to disease: Usually the disease occurs less frequently.

Ability to adapt to the external environment: Strong ability to adapt to the natural and social environment.

Qi deficiency (type B)

Overall characteristics: Insufficient vital energy, with fatigue, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating and other symptoms of qi deficiency as the main features.

Physical characteristics: muscles are soft and weak.

Common symptoms: usually weak voice, shortness of breath and laziness to speak, easy fatigue, lack of energy, easy sweating, pale red tongue with teeth marks on the edges of the tongue, and weak pulse.

Psychological characteristics: introverted and not adventurous.

Prone to illness: susceptible to colds, visceral prolapse, etc.; slow recovery after illness.

Ability to adapt to the external environment: intolerant to wind, cold, heat and dampness.

Yang deficiency constitution (type C)

Overall characteristics: Insufficient Yang Qi, with symptoms of coldness, fear of cold, cold hands and feet as the main features.

Physical characteristics: muscles are soft and weak.

Common symptoms: usually afraid of cold, cold hands and feet, like hot food, lack of energy, pale and plump tongue, and slow pulse.

Psychological characteristics: Personality is usually calm and introverted.

Prone to disease: prone to diseases such as phlegm, swelling, diarrhea, etc.; easily transformed into cold by pathogenic factors.

Ability to adapt to external environment: Can tolerate summer but not winter; susceptible to wind, cold and dampness.

Yin deficiency constitution (type D)

Overall characteristics: Deficiency of Yin fluid, with symptoms of deficiency heat such as dry mouth and throat, hot hands and soles, etc. as the main symptoms.

Physical characteristics: thin body.

Common symptoms: hot palms and soles, dry mouth and throat, slightly dry nose, preference for cold drinks, dry stool, red tongue with little fluid, and weak pulse.

Psychological characteristics: impatient, extroverted, active and lively.

Tendency to disease: prone to fatigue, loss of semen, insomnia and other diseases; easily transformed into heat by pathogens.

Ability to adapt to the external environment: Can tolerate winter but not summer; cannot tolerate heat, heat and dryness.
