What happens if the coccyx is broken?

The coccyx is at the very end of the spine, and it is also a part of the spine. If the coccyx is broken, the patient will have obvious pain, which is the first thing to be discovered, followed by discomfort in defecation, sitting posture, etc. Such symptoms require timely examination to find out the position of the spine before treatment. Do not blindly believe the words of quack doctors.

What are the symptoms of coccyx fracture?

The coccyx is located below the sacrum, which is the tail-most part of the spine. It is the last piece of the spine. If you feel along the spine all the way down, it is the last piece. Its proximal end is connected to the sacrum by fibrocartilage, and the range of motion of this joint is generally greater in women than in men, especially during pregnancy. The coccyx itself has the coccygeal ligament, gluteus magnus, coccygeal muscles, anal sphincter and levator ani muscles attached to it. In men, the coccyx is located higher than the ischial tuberosity, providing better protection when hit. On the contrary, in women, due to the relatively flat pelvic cavity, the coccyx is relatively easy to be bruised when falling. Coccygeal fractures can easily damage the cauda equina nerve. Nerve recovery is a long process that requires patience. You can take another picture to see if there is any new situation. You cannot sit for a long time after a coccyx fracture. It is like an animal's tail, but it is super short. After it is broken, it will get stuck and special methods are needed to restore it if necessary. Orthopedic surgery will find a solution. The coccyx is the last bone we remember and it is also the most important part. If this bone is affected, our coccyx will also be damaged.

As long as the coccyx fracture is not particularly displaced and causes discomfort during defecation, there are generally no major sequelae. However, in outpatient clinics, we often see some patients with local discomfort symptoms that last for a long time. Even if there is no fracture and it is only a local soft tissue contusion, it will last for at least 3 months. A patent coccyx fracture is mainly a compression fracture and can usually be recovered through rest and proper maintenance without leaving any sequelae. Local soreness and pain are also normal. If it is a severe comminuted fracture, it is easy to cause bone non-healing, bone necrosis, osteoarthritis, peripheral fasciitis, bone spurs and other problems. This also varies from person to person, and not everyone will cause the above sequelae at the same time.

For people with chronic coccyx pain, the most important thing is to minimize or avoid pressure on the affected area. When sitting normally, you can put a decompression cushion similar to a lifebuoy on the chair to reduce the pressure on the affected area. This hollow-designed cushion can disperse the pressure on the coccyx and buttocks, allowing patients to sit longer and work more conveniently. You can take some calcium supplements to promote and accelerate recovery. Lower back pain caused by coccygeal injury (including coccygeal fracture, dislocation and subluxation) is a common and frequently occurring disease in clinical orthopedics, especially in women. This shows how high the incidence rate is.
