What are the effects and functions of nard

Nardostachys grandiflora, also known as fragrant pine, is a plant that can be used as medicine after being dried. Nardostachys grandiflora has analgesic effects in clinical practice. In addition to relieving pain, it can also reduce swelling and has a wide range of effects. In addition to treating arrhythmia, learn more about it.

1. Anti-arrhythmic

Valerianone has antiarrhythmic effects and is relatively safe. Its inhibition of ectopic ventricular rhythm (non-anesthetized dogs after secondary coronary artery ligation) is stronger than that of quinidine and spikenard essential oil, while its inhibition of injured atrial flutter and aconitine-induced atrial fibrillation is the same as that of quinidine. The volatile oil extracted from the root of Nardostachys latifolia is weaker than quinidine in prolonging the reflex period and slowing conduction in various heart specimens; its toxicity to mice after acute intravenous injection is also lower than quinidine, and it has no protective effect against ventricular arrhythmia caused by digitalis.

2. On smooth muscle

Applying broad-leaved nard before and after histamine injection to guinea pigs can cause bronchodilation. The alcohol extract has an antagonistic effect on histamine, 5-hydroxytryptamine and acetylcholine in isolated smooth muscle organs (large and small intestines, uterus, and bronchi); it can also antagonize the spasm caused by barium chloride, so it has a direct effect on smooth muscle. Clinically, the treatment of asthma, cough, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc. may be related to this.

3. Effects on cardiovascular system

Intravenous injection of 2g/kg of nardus injection (including volatile oil and water-extracted alcohol precipitate) slowed the heart rate of rabbits, counteracted acute myocardial ischemia caused by posterior pituitary hormone, and alleviated the increase of T wave. When 0.1-1.0 mg/kg of volatile oil is injected intravenously into dogs, their blood pressure drops by 1.9995-3.9996 kPa, which can last for several hours. It can weaken the heart's contractility and increase the heart rate, and has a certain anti-adrenal and peripheral vasodilation effect.

4. Other functions

The volatile oil of broad-leaved sweet pine has weak antibacterial, carminative and antispasmodic effects, and has no local irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. When Nardostachys grandiflora is injected subcutaneously into rabbits, the rabbits show slow response to stimuli, drowsiness, and loss of appetite. The extract of naringa has antihypertensive and anti-ulcer effects.
