Do you sweat when you have a fever?

Do you sweat when you have a fever?

Fever can bring many physical and psychological discomforts. Generally speaking, fever has three stages: chills, high fever and fever reduction. Most patients will sweat during the fever reduction period. Some patients also have repeated fevers after sweating or their fevers go away without sweating. But in general, sweating when you have a fever is normal.

Fever is called fever in medicine. Clinically, an axillary temperature greater than 37.2 ℃ is generally considered to be fever. There are many causes of fever, the most common of which is infection.

In most cases, pathogens in a person's body will be eliminated by the immune system without being noticed; however, once the body's immune function declines or the pathogens are too powerful, the body must mobilize the internal environment to stimulate a more powerful force to fight the pathogens, and to summon this powerful force, a higher body temperature is required. Therefore, the process of human fever is actually the process of the immune system fighting against pathogens.

Reasons for sweating when you have a fever

The fever process is generally divided into three stages:

Chill phase: This phase is equivalent to the immune system raising the body's temperature setting in order to accumulate strength, so the body often feels very cold;

High fever stage: During this stage, the immune system is fully operational to fight pathogens. In order to ensure the combat effectiveness of the immune system, the body temperature rises and people feel extremely uncomfortable.

Antipyretic period: If the immune system achieves an initial victory, the body temperature will drop, and the person will have a flushed face and sweat all over.

How to deal with sweating when you have a fever

One thing to note here is that adults and children have different treatments for fever and need to be treated differently. Generally speaking, the treatment for fever in adults is:

Appropriate cooling: Drink some water to replenish the water loss caused by body metabolism, and there are other physical cooling methods;

Don’t cover your sweat intentionally: Covering your sweat when your body temperature is too high is not good for your body;

Take antipyretics appropriately: Currently, acetaminophen is the first choice for reducing fever in adults;

Go to the hospital for treatment: This is always the right way.
