1. Bloody stool

Fresh blood in the stool is a common symptom of internal hemorrhoids in the early stage. The blood is bright red in color, and is generally not mixed with the stool. However, not every bowel movement causes blood in the stool. The amount of bleeding varies, and may be more or less. The stool may contain blood, the toilet paper may contain blood after defecation, or it may drip out. In severe cases, spurts of blood may occur.

2. Pain

Pain is a common symptom of external hemorrhoids. Because external hemorrhoids are located below the dentate line and are controlled by the spinal nerves, once they become inflamed and swollen, the pain is obvious. Internal hemorrhoids are generally painless, and there is only a transient feeling of falling after the hemorrhoids are prolapsed and returned. If internal hemorrhoids prolapse and become incarcerated, phlebitis, thrombosis, infection, etc., it can cause severe pain in the anus.

3. Protrusion and dislocation of foreign bodies

A bulging anal margin, a foreign body sensation, difficulty in wiping clean during bowel movements, and contamination of underwear are signs of external hemorrhoids. Prolapse is a common symptom of late-stage internal hemorrhoids, and internal hemorrhoids often protrude outside the anus during defecation. In severe cases, hemorrhoids may protrude from the anus when squatting, walking, coughing, or working.

4. Anal wetness and itching

Due to the prolapse of internal hemorrhoids and repeated stimulation, anal sinusitis and chronic proctitis, increased secretion of intestinal mucous glands are often complicated. In those who often prolapse, the anus becomes loose, and the secreted mucus flows out of the anus, irritating the skin around the anus, causing dermatitis and eczema, and causing anal discomfort and itching. In addition, external hemorrhoids generally do not have secretions. When the external hemorrhoids become inflamed and swollen or the skin is ulcerated, the secretions increase. If they are not wiped clean after defecation or the anal sweat glands are relatively developed, it will also cause moisture and itching in the anus.
