What should I do if I have a sweet mouth during pregnancy?

It is actually normal to have a sweet mouth during pregnancy, because many incredible phenomena will occur in a woman's body during pregnancy. However, sometimes we should also be alert to the problem of gestational diabetes. This phenomenon is relatively common, and we should pay attention to the symptoms and take preventive measures.

1. So what are the symptoms of gestational diabetes?

1. No diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance was found before pregnancy.

2. The effects of gestational diabetes on the fetus are mostly spontaneous abortion, intrauterine fetal death, premature birth and perinatal death, and the birth of macrosomia is more common. The incidence of fetal malformations is not higher than that of pregnant women with diabetes, because the differentiation and development of fetal tissues and organs are mainly completed in the early stages of pregnancy, while gestational diabetes often causes obvious hyperglycemia in the middle and late stages of pregnancy.

3. It is advisable to control hyperglycemia in gestational diabetes with insulin, and avoid the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs.

4. After giving birth, the glucose tolerance of most patients with gestational diabetes will return to normal and the symptoms of diabetes will disappear, but they will reappear when they become pregnant again. About a quarter of these women will develop diabetes within a few years or decades.

5. After long-term follow-up observation, it was found that the children of patients with gestational diabetes have a significantly higher chance of developing obesity and diabetes than the general population.

2. What should I do if I get gestational diabetes?

Warm reminder: Pregnant women with diabetes need to be monitored and managed more closely to help them get through the pregnancy period smoothly and reduce fetal mortality.

1. Termination of pregnancy. For pregnant women with severe diabetes, not only will the fetal and infant mortality and malformation rates increase, but the infant's intelligence may also be reduced. Therefore, it is not advisable to continue the pregnancy. Artificial abortion should be performed in the early stages of pregnancy, and induced labor should be performed in the late stages.

2. Follow up regularly. Newly discovered diabetes should be examined in detail and relevant common sense should be explained. The pregnancy should be checked once every 2 weeks before 28 weeks of pregnancy, and every 7 to 10 days after 28 weeks of pregnancy. Each time, blood sugar, ketone bodies, urine protein, hemoglobin, fundus changes, B-ultrasound examination for fetal malformations, and measurement of estriol in urine should be checked.

3. Pregnant women’s diet control should not be too strict. We can take a look at the gestational diabetes diet when we have time. The general staple food is 6 to 8 taels per day, and the calories are calculated at 30 to 35 calories per kilogram of body weight per day, of which carbohydrates are no less than 250g per day, and protein is 1.5g to 2.0g per kilogram of body weight per day. In order to avoid being hungry on an empty stomach, it is best to eat 4 to 6 times a day, in small and frequent meals. You must eat once before going to bed at night to avoid hypoglycemia at night or in the early morning. People with edema should limit salt intake.
