How is Kaposi sarcoma treated?

Kaposi's sarcoma is a central vascular tumor, and this disease is particularly common in men over 50 years old. Therefore, in order to better avoid the harm caused by these diseases, scientific treatment methods should be used. Surgery and chemotherapy are effective methods.

1. Radiotherapy Kaposi sarcoma is sensitive to radiotherapy. Studies have shown that 70% of patients can achieve complete remission after a single irradiation dose of 8Gy. High-dose radiation therapy is usually used to reduce the risk of recurrence.

2. Chemotherapy

(1) Single chemotherapy:

① Catharanthus roseus alkaloid and vincristine: 4-8 mg (about 0.1 mg/kg), slow intravenous drip once a week. About 90% of the classic type achieve full or partial remission, but the effect is poor for the AIDS type.

②Actinomycin D: 6-8 mg/(kg?d) plus 500 ml of 5%-10% glucose solution, intravenous drip, complete within 4 hours, 10 days as a course of treatment, and there should be a 2-week interval between two courses of treatment.

③ Epipodophyllotoxin derivatives (epipodophyllotoxin or tenipodophyllotoxin): recently used to treat this disease. Some studies suggest that 90% of patients will achieve remission. Of these, 41% achieved complete remission.

(2) Combination chemotherapy: There are reports that the use of actinomycin D plus vinblastine, or actinomycin D plus vinblastine plus dactinomycin (DTIC), is more effective in treating Kaposi sarcoma than single drug therapy.

3. Immunotherapy is mainly used for AIDS patients.

(1) Interferon (IFNα-2a or IFNα-2b): 18,000,000 U intramuscular injection per day. The clinical efficacy is between 30% and 40%, which is not ideal.

(2) Interleukin 2 (Ⅱ-2).

4. Surgical resection: Isolated lesions can be removed surgically, but recurrence is inevitable. Surgical resection combined with radiation therapy is more effective
