Will circumcision cause edema in children?

Will circumcision cause edema in children?

Circumcision is a relatively common surgery. We know that an excessively long foreskin can cause great harm to men's health. If phimosis is found in early childhood, circumcision can be performed. This is very beneficial to the child's future marriage and love life. After the circumcision surgery, slight edema will occur, which is a normal phenomenon. As a parent, you should do a good job of care.

What should be paid attention to in postoperative care of children's circumcision?

After the operation, when the anesthetic effect wears off, the wound will have slight pain and bruising. You should take medication regularly. Usually, the symptoms will subside after three days, and the wound will heal after seven to ten days. Before the wound heals, you should follow the doctor's instructions and return for regular follow-up examinations. In addition, the wound should be kept clean and dry after surgery. Please be careful not to wet the gauze when urinating. If the gauze is soaked with urine, you can remove the gauze first and then return to the outpatient clinic for a change of dressing.

After the operation, except for children who have received general anesthesia and need to be hospitalized for a short period of time for care and safety reasons, most patients can still carry out their daily work and do not need to be hospitalized. Adolescent and adult patients may experience swelling, pain and bleeding at the wound due to penile erection after surgery. If the bleeding is minor, local cold compress and pressure can stop the bleeding. If the bleeding is severe, the patient should return to the hospital for treatment immediately. Since the wounds are sutured with absorbable sutures, there is no need to remove the sutures after the wounds have healed. If necessary, soak the wound in clean warm water to help the stitches fall off.

At what age is it appropriate to perform circumcision surgery on a child?

The foreskin of young children is often longer, covering the entire glans penis. This is normal. As they grow older, the foreskin gradually retracts towards the glans penis. When the adult penis is erect, the two layers of skin of the foreskin stretch into one layer. If the glans penis is completely covered by the foreskin, it is called foreskin is too long; if the foreskin is too long and the foreskin opening is narrow and cannot be turned over to expose the glans penis, it is called phimosis.

If the foreskin is too long, you need to frequently pull back the foreskin, clean the glans penis and coronal sulcus, and keep the area clean. If smegma accumulates or inflammation recurs, circumcision should be performed. Phimosis requires circumcision.

If the foreskin is incarcerated, you should go to the hospital for medical treatment as soon as possible. The simplest and most effective treatment method is circumcision.

Most children will get better naturally as they get older. If the foreskin cannot be turned up by the age of seven or eight, surgery should be performed. At this time, the child can understand what the doctor says and cooperate, lying "obediently" on the operating table to undergo surgery.

If it is phimosis, the foreskin opening is very small, and the foreskin bulges like a small ball every time you urinate, then it needs to be treated early by expanding the foreskin opening. This minor operation can be performed by the pediatric surgery department of a regular hospital. Generally speaking, circumcision should be considered after puberty when the patient does not require general anesthesia. However, if a little boy suffers from repeated inflammation or even urinary tract infection due to excessive foreskin, he should undergo surgical circumcision as soon as possible. Whether a newborn baby boy should undergo circumcision surgery is a controversial issue and should be considered carefully and not decided hastily. If the baby has hypospadias, the foreskin should not be circumcised because the foreskin is required to repair hypospadias.
