The eye discharge may be caused by inflammation.

Everyone often sees eye mucus in daily life, but some people find that there is an increase in eye mucus. Abnormal eye mucus can be divided into four types: watery secretions, sticky secretions, mucopurulent secretions and bloody secretions. If people find themselves in this situation, they need to pay attention. Most of the increase in eye mucus is caused by getting angry. People can choose the appropriate treatment method according to their own condition.

1. Eye mucus

Eye boogers are secretions from our eyes. When you get up and wash up every morning, you will find its existence. Eye mucus is also a barometer of our eye health. By observing and analyzing the color, viscosity, etc. of eye secretions, some early eye diseases can be discovered. In addition, you should also pay attention to a sudden increase in eye mucus, as it may be caused by this reason.

2. Be alert to these 4 types of abnormal eye mucus

1. Watery secretions

If you wake up in the morning and find that your eye secretions are thin, sticky, watery liquid, this secretion may indicate viral keratoconjunctivitis, or it may be caused by early tear duct obstruction, foreign bodies on the eye surface, minor trauma, etc.

The bridge of the nose of children is not fully developed. Some children may have epicanthus and inverted eyelashes, which often cause eye irritation and are accompanied by symptoms such as increased watery secretions. If the eyelids of the elderly are in abnormal position, such as entropion or ectropion, the watery secretions will also increase.

2. Sticky secretions

Patients with dry eyes and acute allergic conjunctivitis often have sticky secretions in their eyes, which appear as sticky white filamentous substances, very similar to the commonly used glue. These patients are also often accompanied by foreign body sensation, itchy eyes, etc. If a child suffers from allergic conjunctivitis, after waking up in the morning, the child will say that there are strings coming out of his eyes, which are often sticky secretions.

3. Mucopurulent secretions

If the eye discharge is a thick, slightly yellowish substance, it is mucopurulent discharge. Increased mucopurulent secretions may indicate chronic allergic conjunctivitis or trachoma.

4. Bloody secretions

If you find that your eye discharge is light pink or noticeably blood red, this may be caused by trauma to the eye. If the eye secretions are light pink or slightly bloody, it should be considered as an acute viral infection. Such patients also have red eyes, swollen preauricular lymph nodes, etc.

3. Sudden increase in eye mucus may be caused by "getting angry"

Everyone has a small amount of normal eye discharge, and it is not a disease. Some people believe that if the amount of eye mucus suddenly increases, it is likely caused by getting angry, which is particularly obvious in autumn and winter. The climate is relatively dry in autumn and winter, and the human body is prone to dehydration. The onset of inflammation can easily lead to an increase in eye mucus.

If the increase in eye mucus is caused by getting angry, it is recommended to eat more vegetables and fruits and drink more water. In addition, to prevent office eye diseases, you need to pay attention to the combination of work and rest, and avoid facing the computer for a long time. After working for an hour or two, take a proper break and look at green plants to relax your eyes. Don't get too close to the computer when using it. If your eyes are dry and uncomfortable, you can blink more often to reduce the evaporation of water in your eyes.

But there is one situation in which it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up: a sudden increase in eye mucus may even affect the ability to open the eyes. If the increase in eye mucus is caused by eye disease, it needs to be treated according to the condition.
