Is chlortetracycline eye ointment effective in treating body odor?

If the apocrine sweat glands in the armpit area are well developed, the sweat glands secrete more vigorously, which often leads to bacterial growth and produces an unpleasant odor. However, the use of chloramphenicol hydrochloride eye ointment cannot achieve this therapeutic effect, and other regular treatments are still needed. There are many ways to treat axillary odor. Currently, the most commonly used method is minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery has less surgical trauma, shorter treatment time, and less pain for the patient.

Five ways to treat underarm odor

1. Minimally invasive surgery to treat axillary odor:

Under local anesthesia, one or two (for those with a lot of armpit hair and severe body odor) 1.5 cm skin incisions are made in the armpit skin. Through this small incision, fine surgical instruments are used to scrape and cut the subcutaneous hair follicles and apocrine sweat glands in the armpit area to achieve the effect of eliminating body odor. This method has little trauma, short operation time and definite curative effect. After the operation, the armpit only needs to be properly bandaged. The upper limb movement is not obviously restricted, the chance of postoperative infection is small, the scar is not obvious, and there is no functional impact. It also has the cosmetic effect of eliminating armpit hair for female patients. Therefore, minimally invasive surgical treatment has gradually become the main method for treating body odor.

2. Local injection to treat underarm odor

Subcutaneous injection of drugs in the armpits causes the apocrine sweat glands to atrophy and necrotize, inhibiting the secretion of sweat glands. Such as anhydrous alcohol, formalin, botulinum toxin or Xiaozhiling, but the injection method has the disadvantages of uncertain effects, short-lasting partial effects, and prone to skin necrosis or local painful nodules. 3. Apply external medication to treat underarm odor:

Apply antibacterial agents locally to inhibit the growth of bacteria in the armpits; apply adsorbents to absorb the fatty acids formed; apply antioxidants to inhibit the formation of fatty acids; apply perfume to cover up the odor that has been decomposed. Commonly used methods include applying neomycin ointment, talcum powder, and Xishilan dew, but these methods are only temporary solutions and cannot last long, especially when sweating a lot in hot weather.

4. Physical therapy for the treatment of underarm odor:

Use laser, freezing, high-frequency electroacupuncture, etc. to destroy the apocrine sweat glands in the armpit hair area, and block the elimination of glandular secretions through the formation of skin scar tissue, causing the glands to atrophy. However, the therapeutic effect is generally short-lived, the recurrence rate is high, and the scars are also more obvious.

5. Traditional surgical treatment of axillary odor:

Removing the skin where the apocrine glands are distributed under the armpits is a reliable and thorough treatment for body odor. However, the disadvantages are large trauma and long wound. Because part of the skin needs to be removed, the wound tension is high during suturing, and the wound is prone to tearing and infection. After the operation, the axilla needs to be bandaged with pressure for more than three days, and the movement of the upper limbs is significantly restricted. The axillary scars are obvious after the operation, which may seriously affect the mobility of the upper limbs and require a longer recovery time. Therefore, this surgical method is now gradually less used.
