Postoperative nursing measures for cesarean section

Postoperative nursing measures for cesarean section

Caesarean section is what we usually call cesarean section. It is a relatively common method of delivery. After delivery by this method, the health of the mother is greatly affected. Therefore, postoperative care should be strengthened. First of all, the wound should be kept clean and hygienic, the private parts should be kept clean and hygienic, infection should be prevented, plenty of water should be drunk, attention should be paid to urination, the wound should be taken care of, diet should be adjusted, etc.

1. Keep the genitals and abdominal incisions clean

After surgery, try to avoid contact of the wound with water. When bathing, you should wipe your body and absolutely avoid showering. In particular, bathing in a tub is strictly prohibited before the lochia is completely discharged; rinse the vulva 1-2 times a day, and be careful not to let dirty water enter the vagina; if the wound becomes red, swollen, hot, or painful, do not squeeze or apply it at will. See a doctor in time to avoid prolonged infection of the wound and the entire maternity leave being spent on wound treatment.

2. Drink plenty of water

Drinking plenty of water can help pregnant women to expel waste from their bodies. It is also an effective measure to prevent maternal constipation.

3. Pay attention to urination after delivery

Before performing a cesarean section, doctors will place a urinary catheter. 24-48 hours after the operation, the effects of anesthetics disappear and the bladder muscles regain their urination function. At this time, the catheter can be removed. As long as you feel the urge to urinate, you should try to urinate on your own to reduce the risk of urinary tract bacterial infection caused by keeping the catheter in for too long.

4. Care for wounds

Take good care of your wound after surgery to prevent infection. Try not to make any big movements, because strenuous exercise may cause the wound to split. Even when coughing or laughing, you should support the wound with your hands or use a pillow to support your stomach, and your pain will be relieved. If you notice any symptoms such as fever, redness or swelling, you should seek medical attention immediately.

5. Observe the lochia carefully

Lochia is an important reference for judging whether the body has recovered. Generally, a lot of vaginal secretions will appear after delivery. But over time, the amount of lochia will decrease. The color should gradually change from bright red to pink and then yellow-white. Careful inspection of lochia is a must for women who have undergone cesarean section. If any abnormality is found in the lochia, they should seek medical attention immediately.

6. You should turn over more often after surgery

Anesthetics will be administered during caesarean sections, and anesthetics will inhibit intestinal peristalsis, causing varying degrees of intestinal flatulence and thus abdominal distension. Therefore, it is advisable to do more turning movements after delivery to promote the early recovery of the paralyzed intestinal muscle peristalsis function and expel the gas in the intestine as soon as possible. 12 hours after the operation, you can drink some senna leaf water to help relieve abdominal distension.

Postpartum care after cesarean section is one of the things that every new mother must go through. If the care is not good, it will bring many sequelae to your body. Therefore, mothers must pay attention to postpartum recovery!
