If I have brown discharge during my due date, does it mean I'm going to give birth?

When a pregnant woman reaches her due date, her body will experience some obvious changes, such as frequent urination and decreased fetal movements. At this time, there will be some secretions in the vagina, such as brown secretions. These all indicate that the pregnant woman is at the time of delivery. During this period, you should pay more attention, strengthen your rationality, prepare to give birth in the hospital, don't be nervous in life, and maintain an optimistic attitude.

3 signs of pregnancy before delivery

Some pregnant mothers expressed confusion, saying, "I clearly had spotting or abdominal pain, so why do you say I have false labor?" What is the difference between false labor and real labor? Don’t worry, I will explain them one by one below.

1. Seeing red

Spotted spotting is caused by irregular contractions of the uterus, which causes the fetal membrane near the internal os of the cervix to separate from the uterine wall, causing capillaries to rupture and produce bloody secretions that eventually flow out of the vagina. It usually occurs about 24-48 hours before delivery.

If you only experience spotting and no abdominal pain, it is most likely false labor. You can wait and see at home. If the bleeding is bright red, exceeds the menstrual volume, and is accompanied by abdominal pain, you should go to the hospital for emergency treatment immediately.

2. Regular uterine contractions

If you feel slight abdominal pain, which occurs every five to six minutes or seven to eight minutes, and lasts no more than half a minute each time, it is most likely false labor. False labor usually causes more obvious uterine contraction pain at night and gradually disappears in the morning. False labor will not cause the cervix to dilate, so this is not the real state of labor and there is no need to be hospitalized.

When the real birth comes, the expectant mother will feel a tightness in her stomach, soreness in the waist, and bloating in the lower abdomen. The pain will become increasingly stronger, and the contractions will become more frequent and longer, with each lasting at least 30 seconds.

3. Water breaking

Water breaking does not happen to all pregnant mothers at home, but once it happens, they must be admitted to the hospital immediately.

What is water breaking? Water rupture occurs when the amniotic sac ruptures near delivery due to increased uterine contractions and increased pressure in the uterine cavity, causing the amniotic fluid in the sac to flow out. The mother will suddenly feel a large amount of water flowing out of the vagina, which feels like urinary incontinence and loss of control; however, some pregnant mothers just feel that the vagina is a little wet, like leaking urine.

When water breaks, expectant mothers should be extra careful, especially those with breech presentation or high floating fetal head. It is best not to sit up or stand up immediately at this time. Because a large amount of amniotic fluid outflows, the umbilical cord will be flushed out and cause umbilical cord prolapse, and may even lead to the terrible outcome of intrauterine fetal death.

When water breaks, the correct thing to do is: lie flat, call 120 or 999, rush to the hospital as soon as possible and get further examination. In addition, it is best for you to remember the time of water breaking, and pay attention to the color and amount of amniotic fluid, and smell it to see if there is any bad smell or other special circumstances, so that the doctor can deal with it faster and better.
