How long does it take for dry drowning symptoms to appear?

Dry drowning refers to a phenomenon of drowning that occurs after coming ashore, that is, drowning does not occur during the swimming process, but water enters the lungs and causes pulmonary edema, which may make the patient unable to breathe and cause death. It is relatively hidden and has a certain incubation period. Sometimes people will develop the disease several hours or even days after leaving the swimming pool. It is especially harmful to children.

How to determine whether "dry drowning" has occurred?

.Continuous coughing after swimming;

2. Breathing is labored, with rapid shallow breathing, constant flaring of the nostrils, and violent chest heaving;

3. Appearing very tired and sleepy;

4. Forgetfulness, abnormal behavior or vomiting.

If you experience these symptoms, you must seek medical attention as soon as possible

Learn to handle emergencies

If there is no hospital nearby and the child's symptoms are very serious, parents should learn to deal with emergencies on their own. Here’s how:

1. Quickly tilt the child's head back to clear the mud, weeds, vomit, etc. from the child's mouth and nose to open the airway;

2. Place the child's abdomen on your bent knees, with the child's head down, and press the back to force the water in the child's respiratory tract and stomach out;

3. Perform external cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child. After every two mouth-to-mouth breaths, immediately perform 30 external chest compressions. Make sure to press the correct position, overlap your hands, and press steadily and regularly perpendicular to the sternum. At the same time, blow a large amount of air when doing mouth-to-mouth breathing.

At the same time, parents should also pay attention to the supervision of their children. In any case, parents cannot rely on lifeguards or babysitters for their children's safety. They should teach their children not to do things beyond their swimming ability or play excessively in the pool, such as pushing other children under the water. Develop the habit of wearing a hat to prevent your hair from being caught in the drain filter and causing accidents.

Learn some first aid knowledge. Just a few days ago, a friend called for more people to learn correct cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR is really important for drowning victims, patients with cardiovascular diseases, drunk people, etc. who are in imminent danger of death. I hope more organizations and volunteers can popularize this skill.
