What medicine should I take for damaged corpus cavernosum?

The corpus cavernosum is the cavernous body of the penis. When the corpus cavernosum is damaged for some reason, certain methods can be used for treatment. For example, hot compresses can be used to promote blood circulation and promote timely recovery of the damaged parts. If there is an infection, cefadroxil can be taken orally and combined with levofloxacin for treatment. Damage to the corpus cavernosum is more harmful to men and can easily cause sexual dysfunction.

What is Corpus Cavernosa

The corpus cavernosum, also known as the cavernous muscle, is the hardest smooth muscle and connective tissue in the human body. The corpus cavernosum is an erectile tissue covered with a thick white membrane on the outside and a spongy scaffold composed of connective tissue and smooth muscle on the inside, and its cavities are connected to blood vessels.

When the cavity fills with blood, the penis becomes thicker and harder and becomes erect. The skin of the penis is thin and soft, and the subcutaneous tissue is loose and easy to stretch. However, the skin of the glans penis has no subcutaneous tissue and cannot move. The skin of the penis body extends freely forward to the penis neck, forming a circular fold surrounding the penis head called the foreskin. On the midline of the ventral side of the glans penis, the skin fold that connects the foreskin to the external opening of the urethra is called the frenulum. Be careful not to damage this frenulum during circumcision. It is the hardest smooth muscle and connective tissue in the human body.

Treatment

1. Surgery

In recent years, early surgical treatment has been advocated. The surgery can be done under local anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, or epidural anesthesia.

(1) Surgical treatment without urethral injury: a local incision, circular incision or penoscrotal incision is performed on the penis. After finding the rupture site, the hematoma is completely removed and the ruptured tunica albuginea is sutured with absorbable sutures. For recurrent cases, the tunica albuginea needs to be sutured with non-absorbable sutures. Routine pressure bandage was applied after surgery.

(2) For surgical treatment of combined urethral injury, a circular incision of the penis is selected to remove the hematoma, explore the corpus cavernosum of the penis and the corpus spongiosum of the urethra, find the ruptured and damaged parts, and repair the ruptured tunica albuginea and corpus spongiosum of the urethra. Indwelling urinary catheter. Apply pressure bandage to the penis for 2-3 days. Antibiotics, estrogen, sedatives, etc. are used prophylactically after surgery.

2. Conservative treatment

Conservative treatment is suitable for patients with small tunica albuginea tears and no curvature of the penis. The main measures include local cold compress, pressure bandage, hemostasis, anti-inflammation, thrombolysis, anti-androgen prevention of erection, etc., and antibiotics can be used preventively. However, after conservative treatment, the hematoma may become organized and form a nodule, which may affect future erectile function.
