Children's Multivitamins

Children's Multivitamins

Vitamins are trace elements necessary for our bodies. As children grow, they have a greater demand for vitamins, especially in children aged 3-12 years old. Although the content of vitamins in the body is very small, they play a role that cannot be ignored. Children's multivitamins can provide multiple vitamins at the same time. As a parent, you should supplement according to your child's condition. This kind of thing is not the more the better, and improper use may even cause side effects.

Vitamins are a class of trace organic substances that humans and animals must obtain from food in order to maintain normal physiological functions. They play an important role in human growth, metabolism, and development. Children are at the best time of growth and development, so it is necessary for them to supplement with vitamins. Multivitamins are compound dosage forms of various vitamins synthesized in a certain dosage ratio, so that the various vitamins can "coexist peacefully" and exert their maximum energy. Therefore, it is okay for children to take multivitamin tablets, which is a good choice.

When children take vitamin supplements or multivitamin tablets, they should follow four major guidelines:

Rule 1: Eat only when you need it

The body does not absorb all nutrients as they are given. Eating less will force the cells to absorb them. Eating it every two or three days can not only reduce the risk of overdose, but also supplement the body's needs for nutrients.

Chronic patients can supplement B vitamins in appropriate amounts. Because chronic diseases are like being in a state of high pressure, it is easy to deplete B vitamins. For example, the elderly who have problems with chewing and food intake can take an appropriate amount of multivitamin supplements. Pregnant women and children should not take vitamin supplements casually. As for whether or not to take folic acid to prevent neurological defects in your baby, it is recommended to discuss with your doctor and pharmacist before using it.

Rule 2: Be aware of drug interactions

Vitamins and health foods often interact with Western medicines. People with heart, liver, or kidney problems are advised to discuss their use with a doctor before use. Common drug interactions include the risk of bleeding when fish oil, garlic, ginkgo and aspirin are used together.

Fiber health foods, such as psyllium, will reduce the effectiveness of the painkiller Tylenol, so it is best to take western medicine first, wait two hours for the medicine to be absorbed, and then take health foods. Liver-protecting health foods, such as mushrooms, will activate the body's antidote genes, rendering the drugs ineffective, so it is best to wait 3 to 4 hours before using them compared to western medicine.

Rule 3: Do not exceed the recommended daily intake

Even the safer water-soluble vitamins B and C can cause excessive accumulation due to low urination. For example, too much vitamin B6 can cause peripheral neuropathy; too much vitamin C can cause kidney stones and headaches. Therefore, you should drink more water when taking vitamins.

It is best to consume vitamins and minerals within the daily recommended range, and choosing a multivitamin is safer than a single supplement. To identify whether you are taking too much vitamin, you can look at the recommended daily intake (RDA) on the nutrition label. The USRDA in the United States is marked as 100%, which means it is fully compliant. If it is 100%×66, it means the recommended amount is 66 times, and too high a dose can be dangerous.

Rule 4: Change brands every two months

When taking nutritional supplements, you should also spread the risks and switch to different brands at least every two months. This will not only increase the body's utilization rate, but also avoid the development of drug resistance. In addition, since the amount used is not much, it is best to choose a small package.
