Throat suppuration is mainly caused by bacterial infection. The more common bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus, Pneumococcus, beta-hemolytic Streptococcus, etc. Bacterial infection often causes fever. We know that tonsils are immune organs. Antibiotics need to be used promptly to treat the disease and avoid more serious consequences. If you don't pay attention to proper treatment, it will cause great harm to your health. Clinical manifestations 1. The main local symptoms are swollen tonsils and severe sore throat. The pain in the pharynx starts on one side, and then there is obvious pain in both sides of the pharynx, and the pain worsens when swallowing. The pain may radiate to the ears. Swollen and painful lymph nodes in the neck may sometimes make it difficult to turn the head. In children, purulent tonsillitis can cause breathing difficulties when the tonsils are significantly enlarged. The inflammation can spread to the surrounding tissues and cause local complications such as peritonsillar abscess, acute otitis media, acute sinusitis, acute lymphadenitis, and parapharyngeal abscess. 2. Systemic symptoms include chills and high fever, with body temperature reaching over 39°C, headache, poor appetite, muscle aches in the limbs, fatigue, general discomfort, and constipation. Children may suffer from convulsions, vomiting and drowsiness due to high fever. Treatment 1. Effective antibiotics are the first choice. This disease is mainly bacterial infection, mostly streptococcal infection. Penicillin antibiotics are the first choice for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment. The route of administration is determined according to the severity of the disease. Those who are allergic to penicillin can choose cephalosporins or quinolones. If the patient's condition does not improve after 2 to 3 days of initial treatment, the cause should be analyzed or other types of antibiotics should be selected based on drug sensitivity tests. 2. For symptomatic treatment of tonsillitis complicated by high fever, headache and body aches, acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used. People suffering from constipation should take Niuhuang Jiedu Tablets, which can not only relieve constipation but also reduce inflammation and swelling. 3. Topical medications are used through gargles, lozenges and sprays to achieve the purpose of pain relief, disinfection, cleaning the oropharynx and helping to eliminate viscous secretions. You can choose to apply 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1% zinc oxide solution, 1%-2% iodine glycerin, 10% tannic acid glycerin, etc. on the surface of tonsils once a day, and 10 times as a course of treatment. The gargle solution can be compound borax solution, compound chlorhexidine gargle solution or 1:5000 furacilin solution. Children can also gargle with warm sugar water. 4. General treatment: Rest in bed, eat liquid food and drink plenty of water, improve nutrition and keep bowel movements smooth. This disease is contagious and should be treated in isolation. 5. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine focuses on clearing away heat, detoxifying, relieving pain and dispersing nodules. Commonly used ones include Yinqiao Citrus Decoction or Qingyan Preservative Decoction. Chinese patent medicines include Qingkailing, Liushen Pills, etc. |
