How to cure hiccups

How to cure hiccups

If you want to know how to cure hiccups, you need to understand the causes of hiccups. Only by finding the root cause can you treat it symptomatically. Hiccups are caused by diaphragm spasm. There are many reasons for diaphragm spasm. It depends on what kind of hiccups the patient has. If the hiccups are frequent, which is what ordinary people usually call hiccups every half a day, it is generally caused by stomach cold. If the hiccups are very rapid, it is generally caused by stomach heat or anger.

There are special folk treatments for hiccups, which is to suddenly scare the hiccuping patient, such as suddenly shouting behind the hiccuping patient. The hiccups will be relieved due to the sudden fright. Most normal hiccups will stop on their own without special treatment.

For patients with long-term unrelieved symptoms, the following methods can be tried.

(1) General treatment: For patients with long-lasting hiccups, they can try holding their breath, drinking cold water, or repeated breathing to stop the hiccups.

(2) Acupuncture therapy: Acupuncture Shaoshang, Yingxiang, and bilateral Geshu points can achieve an effective rate of over 90% in one session. Acupuncture Zusanli, Sanyinjiao, Neiguan, and Taichong points can also be performed simultaneously to significantly improve the relief rate.

(3) Moxibustion: You can press Zhongwan, Guanyuan, and then Tanzhong points in this order. Gentle moxibustion should be applied to each point for 15 minutes, once a day. The cure rate of this method is 69% after one session. Repeating the moxibustion for one week will achieve a cure rate of 100%.

(4) Massage and acupressure: The therapist presses the patient's bilateral eye sockets with the thumbs of both hands, which is equivalent to the supraorbital nerve. The thumbs of both hands rotate alternately for 2 to 4 minutes as the patient tolerates, and the patient is asked to hold his breath intermittently. This often produces good results. The diaphragm point can also be massaged for 10 minutes. Some people report that pinching the sides of the patient's middle finger with the thumb and index finger will be effective after 2 to 3 minutes.

(5) Palm-strike method: The patient sits or stands, and the doctor stands behind the patient. The doctor stretches out the fingers, puts the five fingers together, straightens the wrist, and uses the base of the palm to strike the diaphragm and stomach points on the back when the patient is not prepared, 1 to 2 times on the left and right sides.

Hiccups can be treated with the above methods. These methods are relatively effective in practice. You should learn them carefully and show off your skills when you encounter a patient with hiccups. Patients with hiccups should pay attention to eating more light foods in their daily diet, not smoking, not drinking, not overeating, and only eat until they are 80% to 90% full.
