Dry skin on the legs with white flakes is not necessarily vitiligo

If the skin on the calves becomes dry and white flakes appear, many people will be very worried, afraid that they have vitiligo. We know that vitiligo is a skin disease that is relatively difficult to treat. In fact, this situation is not necessarily caused by vitiligo. The symptoms of vitiligo are relatively obvious. It will cause some small white spots, and as the disease worsens, fusion will occur.

1. Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a disease that occurs in the acquired environment. It can occur at any age, but is most common in young people. The skin lesions are completely depigmented, appearing milky white, with clear borders and darker skin color at the edges. White spots vary in size and shape and can occur anywhere on the body, even affecting most of the skin. The patient had no subjective symptoms and no scaling or skin atrophy.

2. Anemic nevus

Experts point out that anemic nevus appears as light-colored white spots on the skin, but the cause is clear. It is due to the developmental defects of vascular tissue in the white spots that cause skin lesions. It often occurs after birth or in childhood, and the lesions appear as single or multiple round, oval or irregular shaped pale white spots. This disease is not easy to disappear throughout life and grows with the patient's body. There is currently no special treatment. 3. Tinea versicolor

Tinea versicolor is commonly known as tinea versicolor. Patients often sweat excessively in all seasons. The cause of the disease is fungal infection, which is more common in spring and summer. Tinea versicolor appears as round or oval pale white spots covered with a small amount of fine scales, which occasionally cause itching. Patients can be completely cured by applying topical antifungal drugs such as ketoconazole ointment and selenium sulfide lotion. After cure, tinea versicolor will disappear on its own.

4. Pityriasis alba

Pityriasis alba, commonly known as worm spots, is more common in young children. It manifests as round or oval incomplete hypopigmented spots. The skin defects are pale white with unclear boundaries and slightly raised edges. The white spots are covered with a small amount of fine scales. Experts point out that white spots vary in size, with a diameter of about one centimeter or several centimeters, and are prone to occur on the face. Pityriasis alba may resolve on its own over several months or longer without the need for treatment.
