Can a severed nerve be restored?

Nerves are one of the most important parts of our body. There are different nerves everywhere in the body, and each nerve has its own function. For example, the nerves in the brain are dedicated to serving brain activities. Nerves in other parts of the body have specific innervations. However, once abnormalities occur in the nerves, they will affect the normal functional changes of the body. So can severed nerves be restored?

1. No matter how many surgeries are performed, nerve function cannot be restored. Surgery can only create conditions for nerve recovery but cannot restore the nerves. Neurological recovery depends on providing adequate blood supply, nutrition and excitation activation to the affected nerves as soon as possible so that the nerves can be restored to control and regulate limb functions. This is the law of treatment

2. Nerves are made up of many nerve fibers. Nerves as thin as hair are made up of thousands of bundles of nerve fibers. It is impossible to pair them one by one, so even if the nerves are connected, the function will not be restored much.

3. For nerve rupture, if the severed nerve can be found and anastomosed in time, the function of the part can be restored. However, if it is discovered after surgery, the possibility of recovery is very small.

4. This depends on the nerve damage at the time and whether the nerve was sutured at the time. Generally, if the nerve was not completely ruptured at the time, some functions can be restored after suturing and immobilization and effective functional training in the later period, but the possibility of complete recovery is not very large. If it was completely ruptured at the time, after debridement, suturing, immobilization and later training, some functions can be restored. Of course, it depends on the individual situation and whether the nerve was bruised in addition to the rupture. If so, the recovery will be relatively slow and the functional damage will be more serious.

5. When the nerve line is broken, it is recommended to go to a large hospital for further treatment. Nerve anastomosis must be performed before treatment. However, after the nerve anastomosis, a new nerve end plate is formed at the nerve anastomosis site. The key to the recovery of nerve function is whether the nerve fibers and nerve cells can regenerate and pass through this nerve end plate. If the nerve cannot be excited and unable to pass through this nerve end plate after the anastomosis, the operation has failed.
