1. Cough

It is a common symptom of respiratory diseases. Common causes include trachea, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, pleurisy, bronchial asthma, respiratory tract and lung tumors, foreign bodies, dust, and irritating gases (cold, hot, chemical). Coronary heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, myocarditis, pulmonary amebiasis, etc. can all cause cough.

Pay attention to the nature, rhythm, course of the cough, whether there is sputum, the color, smell, amount, viscosity of the sputum, etc.

Are there any accompanying symptoms? For example, coughing and expectoration with fever and moist rales may be a respiratory infection; severe coughing may be accompanied by chest pain; the elderly and weak may have difficulty breathing due to thick sputum!

Examination: Sputum examination can find pathogenic bacteria, blood routine examination can indicate whether there is infection, chest X-ray can reflect the location and nature of the lesion, and pulmonary function test can observe the respiratory function status.

2. Difficulty breathing

Dyspnea can be divided into pulmonary and cardiac causes.

(1) Pulmonary dyspnea is caused by respiratory diseases that cause pulmonary ventilation and gas exchange disorders, leading to hypoxia and carbon dioxide retention.

(2) Cardiac dyspnea is dyspnea caused by left heart failure or (and) right heart failure. Common causes: heart failure caused by coronary heart disease, hypertension, rheumatic heart disease, etc. Worsening during mild physical labor, paroxysmal dyspnea at night (also known as cardiac asthma), and sitting breathing.

All of them are accompanied by symptoms such as chest pain, cyanosis, cough, sputum, fever, and mental changes.

Coughing brings 8 kinds of disease signals

1. If the cough is strong and heavy, and the sputum is yellow and sticky, it is mostly caused by exogenous wind-heat; if the sputum is white and thin, and there is clear runny nose, it is caused by exogenous wind-cold.

2. The cough is weak, and the phlegm is thick and yellow and difficult to cough up, and the throat is dry and sore. These are symptoms of lung heat.

3. Dry cough without sputum or with little and thick sputum is mostly caused by dry cough or hot cough.

4. If the cough is tight, stuffy and blocked, and the sputum is white and large in amount and easy to cough up, it is mostly a disease of wet phlegm or phlegm fluid.

5. If the coughing occurs in paroxysms, occurring as many as 10 to 20 times in succession, and when it ends there is a long sound in the throat, like a bird's cry, the disease is called whooping cough.

6. If the cough sounds like a dog barking, and there is a white film in the throat that is not easy to peel off, it is called diphtheria. This disease is mostly caused by lung and kidney yin deficiency and fire poison attacking the throat.

7. A hoarse cough, a dry cough with little sputum or blood in the sputum, and symptoms such as hot flashes and dry throat indicate lung yin deficiency.

8. A weak and mild cough accompanied by shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, and clear and thin sputum is a symptom of lung qi deficiency. If the cough is weak and worse at night, and there is shortness of breath, back pain, etc., it is often a symptom of both lung and kidney deficiency.
