Is it normal for a woman to have an Adam's apple?

Generally speaking, women do not have Adam's apples, but it is not ruled out that some women may have a small Adam's apple due to genetic factors or acquired development. Some people also say that because some women are relatively thin and have a protruding thyroid bone, people often mistake them for having Adam's apples. Because each person's physical fitness is different, the hormones secreted by women are also different, and hormones are also one of the reasons why women have Adam's apples.

It is normal for women to have Adam's apple.

For some girls, excessive secretion of male hormones may also cause a prominent Adam's apple. In fact, both men and women have Adam's apple, it's just a matter of size. Don't be too nervous about it. The human throat is made up of 11 pieces of cartilage as a support, the most important and largest of which is called thyroid cartilage. The laryngeal cartilage begins to develop when the fetus is two months old, and continues to grow every year until 5-6 years after birth. However, the growth of laryngeal cartilage basically stops from the age of five or six to puberty.

The thyroid cartilage is the same size in children, regardless of gender. After entering puberty, the secretion of male androgen increases, and the upper ends of the anterior horns of the thyroid cartilage plates on both sides rapidly enlarge and protrude forward to form the Adam's apple. At the same time, the laryngeal cavity is significantly enlarged, almost 6 times that of a newborn baby. This turns the boy's originally clear childish voice into a deep and strong adult voice. This male sexual characteristic is caused by the androgen testosterone secreted by the testicles. Although normal female ovaries also produce a small amount of testosterone, it is only 5% of that of men, so most women do not have Adam's apples, that is, the Adam's apples do not protrude significantly.

Is there no way to deal with a prominent Adam’s apple? No, no, you can have surgery to remove the excess part.

Don't underestimate the small size of the Adam's apple cartilage. Without it supporting your throat, it would be difficult for you to breathe and swallow. In addition, the reason why men have large Adam's apples is to make the throat cavity more spacious, so that they can make low sounds that can be heard by people from far away. This trick was very useful when hunting in ancient times.
