So what are the effects and functions of oak bark? Experts say that oak bark has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying and treating enteritis.

Medicinal Parts

It is the bark of the Fagaceae plant Quercus montana.

Function and indications

Diuretic, heat-clearing and detoxifying. Treat enteritis, diarrhea, dysentery, jaundice, and hemorrhoids.

Usage and Dosage

For internal use: decoct in water, 2-3 qian. For external use: mash and apply or decoct in water to wash feet.

Selection

①For treating dysentery, enteritis and diarrhea: 50g of oak bark. Decoction in water and take three times a day.

②Treat jaundice: Oak bark, calcine and grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time, three times a day.

③Treat hemorrhoids: Mash fresh oak bark and apply it to the affected area. (The following functions and indications are from "Jilin Chinese Herbal Medicine")

Clinical Research

1. Treatment of diarrhea in children: Take 90g of oak bark, wash and chop, add 4000ml of water, boil it into 1000ml, and use this decoction to soak your feet for half an hour each time. For seriously ill patients, take 20 ml of decoction orally, 2-3 times a day. 200 cases were treated, and 96.5% were cured or improved.

2. Treatment of infectious diarrhea: Take 250g of fresh oak bark (100g of dry bark), add 2000ml of water, boil for 30 minutes, pour the liquid into the washbasin, cool to about 40℃, let the patient soak the feet to the bare joints, once a day for about 30 minutes. It usually heals after 1 to 2 times. If it is ineffective, you can take the decoction orally, calculated at 1 ml per 1 kg of body weight. A total of 48 cases were treated, with an overall effective rate of 93.75%.
