The efficacy and function of Misty Water Pueraria

You may not have heard of the Chinese medicinal herb Pueraria lobata in daily life, but you can often see this medicinal herb in the prescriptions of Chinese medicinal herbs that you take every day. This medicinal herb has a slightly sweet taste, which makes it easier for children to drink. However, even though the medicinal value of Pueraria lobata is very high, it cannot be used casually. If you are a person who has contraindications to it, you should not eat Pueraria lobata to avoid side effects.

Function and indications

Clears away heat and dampness, detoxifies and discharges pus. Used for dysentery, enteritis, urinary tract infection; used externally to treat carbuncle and mastitis.

Dosage

For internal use: decoction, 15-30g. Double the freshness. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply; or mash the juice and gargle.

Additional prescription

① Urinary tract infection, enteritis, dysentery, furuncle, mastitis: 1 to 2 taels of fresh Pueraria lobata or 5 qian to 1 tael of dried Pueraria lobata. Decoction in water. (Guangzhou Army "Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines")

②For the treatment of traumatic fractures (after reduction and fixation), carbuncles, mash the fresh leaves of Pueraria lobata and apply them to the affected area, or mix the dry powder with wine and apply it to the affected area. (Wenshan Chinese Herbal Medicine)

③Treat scleroderma: Mash dew kudzu leaves, gourd tea leaves, and salt for external application; and use dew kudzu stems and gourd tea boiled in water for washing and rubbing. (Selected Works of the Exhibition: Dermatology)

Perennial herb. Stems diffuse or ± creeping, sometimes up to 90 cm long, bare or ± sparsely hairy. The leaves are short-petiolate, pancreatic, mostly alternate, or sometimes opposite at the bottom, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 1.5-3.5 cm long, mucronate at apex, rounded or obtuse at base, with 3 main veins, entire margins, rough and thinly pubescent on both sides. The flowers are small, 4-merous, and borne in axillary clusters; male and female flowers are mixed: male flowers are light green or purple, with 4-lobed calyx and prominent white stamens; the calyx of female flowers is less than 2 mm long when fruiting, has ridges, and is hairy. Achenes are oval and pointed, black and shiny. Flowering period is summer.

1. "Southern Fujian Folk Herbs": Dew Pueraria is very effective in drawing out pus. If there is no pus, use it quickly to avoid increasing the pain.

2. "Essentials of Raw Medicinal Herbs" says: It can disperse carbuncle, rickets and large poisonous sores, disinfect, and treat breast abscesses and breast cancer. Use the root to beat into pieces and add sugar for compressing, which can also cool the blood. To relieve toothache, pound the juice and mix it with water.

3. "Records of Medicinal Herbs in Lingnan" says: Take the stems and leaves, blend them into juice, and apply it to sores, ulcers and fire sores to reduce swelling, disperse toxins and discharge pus. It can also treat leucorrhea, damp-heat dysentery, and the root can be boiled and taken orally.

"Guangdong Traditional Chinese Medicine": It can detoxify, remove dampness, treat toothache caused by wind and fire, hot eyes, and vomiting blood.
