Impulse is an emotion that everyone has. The problem is that some people can control their impulses well, while others are prone to impulsiveness. People who have difficulty controlling their intense anger are called impulsive personality disorder. Generally, as they age, the impulsive tendency will gradually ease, and the obstacles caused to interpersonal relationships are difficult to make up for. Let's take a look at the treatment of impulsive personality disorder. Impulsive personality disorder is also called explosive personality disorder or aggressive personality disorder. It is a personality disorder characterized by sudden outbursts of very intense and uncontrollable anger and impulsive behavior due to minor mental stimulation. The main characteristics are emotional instability and lack of impulse control. Sudden outbursts of violent or threatening behavior are also common. Impulsive personality disorder is more difficult to treat. Its manifestations may change differently with age, and generally tend to gradually improve, but interpersonal relationship barriers often remain, manifested as hostile attitudes toward relatives, friends, and neighbors. Causes of the disease Physiological causes A large number of animal experiments and clinical data have shown that aggressive behavior has its physiological basis. Some physiologists have suggested that delayed maturation of the cerebellum and blocked development of the neural pathways that transmit pleasure, making it difficult to feel and experience pleasure and security, may be factors in the occurrence of aggressive behavior. Some people report that abnormal EEG waves are common in violent criminals, especially slow wave activity and positive phase sharp waves in the brain, which is 2% in the general population and 14% in patients with aggressive personality. In addition, aggressive behavior is also related to excessive secretion of endocrine glands and male hormones in the human body. Psychological reasons: ① Role identification and aggressiveness. Boys entering puberty think they have grown up and are particularly keen on identifying with and having a one-sided understanding of the role of a man. They emphasize masculine characteristics such as fortitude, courage, loyalty, strength, and aggressiveness. Therefore, they will show strong aggressiveness in front of their peers, especially when the opposite sex is present, to prove that they are already a man. ②Inferiority complex and compensation. Everyone may develop an inferiority complex due to their physical condition, family background, living conditions, nature of their work, etc. People with inferiority complexes often seek ways to compensate for their inferiority. When impulsivity and aggression are used as a way of compensation, the behavior becomes more aggressive. ③Self-esteem is frustrated. Young men have particularly strong self-esteem, and if they encounter setbacks, they tend to react particularly sensitively and strongly. Frustration is an important cause of aggressive behavior. The "frustration-aggression" theory reminds us that everyone will experience frustration in life to a certain extent, and therefore everyone is aggressive; the greater the frustration, the more likely it is that aggressive behavior will occur, and even violence will be used. Family reasons Generally speaking, aggressiveness has a lot to do with family education. Children who are spoiled by their parents often have too strong a sense of individuality and are prone to "fight back" when they are restricted; in authoritarian families, children are often beaten and scolded, and their psychology is suppressed. Once the dissatisfaction that has been pent up in their hearts for a long time breaks out, they often choose more intense behaviors to vent their resentment. Moreover, as the saying goes, "you reap what you sow", children will imitate their parents' aggressive behavior. Social reasons: Novels and movies about fighting and murder make it easy for young people who lack analytical thinking to imitate and identify with them. In addition, the popular idea in society that "honest people suffer losses" can easily lead young people to engage in aggressive behavior. |
