Why do my eyes shed tears?

Why do my eyes shed tears?

It is normal for us to shed tears, especially when we encounter something sad, we will shed tears involuntarily. However, for some people, crying is a common occurrence, which requires us to take it seriously, find the cause in time, and solve the problem accordingly to avoid major hidden dangers in our lives. So, why do eyes shed tears? Let’s take a look below.

Under normal circumstances, the tear glands in the human eye structure can secrete a small amount of tears to maintain the lubrication of the eyeball and cornea and offset normal tear evaporation. Since the tears secreted normally are very little and flow closely along the surface of the eyeball and in the tiny gaps inside the eyelids, you will not feel the tears flowing. However, the moment you blink, the tears on the surface of the eyeball are sucked into the tear sewer - the nasolacrimal duct. The lacrimal glands continuously secrete tears, and the nasolacrimal ducts continuously discharge tears, so people do not normally shed tears.

1. Influenced by external factors

Some patients may secrete tears reflexively due to external stimulation of the tear glands, such as cold air or wind, resulting in increased tearing. Excessive tears cannot be discharged from the tear duct in time and flow out of the eyelids, causing tearing.

Treatment: This is purely a physiological tearing phenomenon. If the external stimulation factors are removed, this symptom will disappear, so no treatment is needed.

2. Tear drainage disorder

The tear secretion volume is normal, the tear duct is unobstructed, the flushing is unobstructed, but the orbicularis oculi is loose, the tear pump function is weakened or disappears, causing tear discharge obstruction and tearing.

Treatment: This case is functional tear sac mucosa, and the tear drainage function should be strengthened.

3. Chronic eye inflammation

Eye problems such as conjunctivitis, trachoma, trauma, foreign bodies, tumors, etc. can cause the tear duct to be narrowed, the tear duct to be incompletely blocked, and the tear drainage function to be reduced. The normal amount of tears secreted cannot completely flow into the nasal cavity and flow out of the eyelids, resulting in tearing.

Treatment: This situation is organic tearing, and tears will occur even indoors. You should go to the hospital for treatment in time.
