There are many kinds of Chinese medicinal materials that can be used as medicine in traditional Chinese medicine. Although there are many Chinese medicinal materials that are more common in daily life, most of them are relatively rare. For example, Echeveria is probably a kind of Chinese medicinal material that many people have not heard of. In fact, this Chinese medicinal material has another name called Dendrobium candidum. Next, let’s take a look at the effects and functions of Echeveria.

Efficacy and function of Echeveria

The alias of Echeveria is: Fish and Turtle Venus, Melon Seed Gold, Stone Melon Seed, Venus Grass, Melon Rice Vegetable, Meat Dendrobium, and Tree-Hugging Lotus.

The whole herb of Echeveria solani, a plant of the Polypodiaceae family, is used as medicine. This herb grows on the rock walls of valleys, clinging to tree bark or rocks. Available all year round.

Echeveria is sweet, bitter and cold. It has the functions of dispelling wind and resolving phlegm, clearing away heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and removing blood stasis. It is mainly used to treat lymphadenitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, rheumatic bone pain, high fever in children, internal and external bleeding, bruises, and external treatment of sores and swellings.

Single prescription:

1. Treat lung heat cough: 10g each of Echeveria paniculata, Rhizoma Cynanchum, Houttuynia cordata, and Rhizoma Cynanchum, decocted in water and taken orally.

2. Treatment of hot flashes due to pulmonary tuberculosis: (1) 30g of Echeveria scabra and 15g of Pteris chinensis, decocted in water and taken in 2 doses, 1 dose per day. (2) Boil 30g of Echeveria and 15g of Polypodium vulgare in water, divide into two doses and take one dose per day.

3. To treat cough with blood due to pulmonary tuberculosis: Take 30g each of Echeveria and Agrimoniae, decocted in water and taken once a day.

4. Treatment of bronchitis: Take 10g each of Echeveria, Glechoma longituba and loquat leaves, decocted in water and taken orally.

5. Treat hematuria: 15g of Echeveria scabra, 30g of Plantain, 10g of Agrimony granadilla, decocted in water and taken orally.

6. Treatment of anal bleeding: decocted in water 120g of Echeveria paniculata.

7. Treatment of cholecystitis: 60g of Echeveria schrenkiana and 120g of tofu, decocted in water and taken orally.

8. To treat ascites: Take 15g each of Echeveria paniculata and Agrimoniae, 6g each of Lysimachia chinensis and Cirsium japonicum. Decoction in water and drink.

9. Treat rheumatic joint pain: decoct 30g of Echeveria paniculata in water and add appropriate amount of rice wine, take 1 dose per day.

10. Treatment of acute lymphadenitis: 15g of Echeveria philadelphica and 30g of Viola yedoensis, decocted in water and taken orally. Use fresh products of the above two medicines and mash them for external application.

The usual dosage for oral administration is 15 to 30g of dry product. For external use, apply in appropriate amount.

Plant morphology: Perennial evergreen creeping herb with slender rhizomes that run horizontally and are sparsely covered with scales. The scales are light brown and thin, coarsely sieve-like, with a wide base and irregular branches, and a subulate tip. Leaves are type 2, simple, distal, fleshy, dark green, with unclear veins; nutrient leaves are ovate to oblong-ovate, 1-2 cm long, about 2 cm wide, and sparsely covered with scales on the underside of the leaves. The spore leaves are slender, tongue-shaped or spoon-shaped, 3 to 6 cm long and less than 1 cm wide, and are often the same shape as the nutrient leaves. The sori are medium-sized, far apart, joined at the top, and arranged on the dorsal surface of the sporophylls, one row on each side of the main vein.
