Moxibustion sites for sciatica

Moxibustion sites for sciatica

Nowadays, some people with mild sciatica pain are looking for ways to treat it as soon as possible. They don't want to wait until the disease worsens and then regret it. Moxibustion is one of the treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine in our country. It has obvious therapeutic effects on sciatica. Moxibustion combined with acupuncture points is very effective. Generally, after one or two courses of moxibustion treatment, the patient's overall condition will improve a lot. From this point of view, moxibustion is a good method. Now let’s take a look at which parts of the body can be moxibustioned for sciatica?

Sciatica:

Sciatica is a syndrome characterized by pain along the sciatic nerve pathway and distribution area. The vast majority of sciatica cases are secondary to lesions in the local sciatic nerve and surrounding structures that cause stimulation, compression and damage to the sciatic nerve, which is called secondary sciatica; a few are primary, namely sciatica.

Causes:

There are many causes. The sciatica in the vast majority of patients is secondary to the stimulation, compression and damage to the sciatic nerve caused by lesions in the local sciatic nerve and surrounding structures, which is called secondary sciatica; a few are primary, namely sciatica.

Moxibustion program:

1. Moxibustion at Fuyang acupoint for sciatica

Treatment method: The treatment group used single-point moxibustion therapy on the Fuyang acupoint. The Fuyang acupoint was located on the foot-sun bladder meridian, behind the calf, behind the external malleolus, and 3 inches directly above the Kunlun acupoint. A pure moxa stick produced in Suzhou was used, which was ignited and aimed at the Fuyang acupoint. The temperature was determined when the patient felt comfortable and had a sense of heat. Moxibustion was performed for 30 to 40 minutes. During the moxibustion treatment, the patient felt a sense of warmth transmitted to the calf and upward, which was the best treatment effect. Take once a day, 15 days as a course of treatment. The control group adopted the meridian needling method, with the acupoints of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian as the main acupoints, often Zhibian, Yinmen, Weizhong, Chengshan, Kunlun, Shenmai, etc., and the needling was arranged from the buttocks to the ankles. Electroacupuncture was used to stimulate sequentially for 30 minutes, once a day, and 15 days was a course of treatment. The pain efficacy of the two groups of cases was evaluated before treatment and after one course of treatment. Both groups used VAS pain scoring method.

Treatment results: Significantly effective means that the radiating pain in the buttocks, thighs, and calves basically disappears, with only slight pain after heavy physical activity, and normal functional activities; ineffective means that there is no obvious change or aggravation of clinical signs and symptoms. In the treatment group, 49 cases were effective, accounting for 98%, and 1 case was ineffective, accounting for 2%. In the control group, 42 cases were significantly effective, accounting for 84%, and 8 cases were ineffective, accounting for 16%. The four-cell table X2 test showed that the difference in the effective rate between the two groups was significant (P<>

2. Internal moxibustion laser acupuncture device for the treatment of sciatica

Treatment:

(1) Main acupoints: The acupoints of the Foot Taiyang and Shaoyang meridians are mainly selected. For patients with muscular atrophy, the acupoints of the Foot Yangming and Taiyin meridians can be used as auxiliary acupoints. Generally, the drainage method is used. The large intestine point, Guanyuan point, Zhibian point, Huantiao point, Yinmen point, Weizhong point, Chengshan point, Yanglingquan point, Xuanzhong point, Zusanli point, Kunlun point, Sanyinjiao point, Ashi point, etc., the above points have the effects of relaxing muscles, activating blood circulation and relieving pain. Each time, press the painful area and select 5 to 7 acupoints, all on the affected side. (2) Operation method

① Ignite the laser tube of the treatment machine in advance and adjust the current to the optimal laser output.

②Disinfect the treatment area locally with 75% alcohol.

③ Treat the laser injection site with 2% hydrogen peroxide solution.

④Use traditional acupuncture techniques to insert the needle into the deep predetermined treatment point, leave the needle in for 10 to 15 minutes, once a day, 10 times as a course of treatment.

Treatment results: After treatment, 80 patients were cured, 64 (80%) were cured, 10 (12.5%) were significantly effective, 3 (3.75%) were improved, and the total effective rate was 96.25%. According to literature reports, the cure rate of acupuncture treatment for general sciatica patients is 53.2%. Currently, 80 cases have been treated with laser combined with acupuncture, and the cure rate has reached 80%, which is a very significant difference (P<0.05).

1. 40 cases of sciatica treated with mild moxibustion combined with acupuncture

Treatment:

Acupoint selection: Main points: Large Intestine Shu, Guanyuan Shu, L3-5 Jiaji points, Huantiao, Weizhong, and Yanglingquan. Acupoint combination: For the foot-Taiyang type, Yinmen and Kunlun are recommended. For the foot-Shaoyang type, Juegu and Qiuxu are recommended. Operation method: The patient takes prone or lateral position. The Dachangshu and Guanyuanshu points are pierced obliquely 2 inches toward the spinous process, the Huatuo Jiaji point is pierced vertically 5 fen, the Huantiao point is pierced vertically 2 to 3 inches, the Yanglingquan point is pierced vertically 1 inch, and the Weizhong point is pierced shallowly. The lifting, inserting and draining method is used to obtain Qi. The needle sensation of the Huantiao, Weizhong and Yanglingquan points must be released to the foot of the affected limb. If the patient is old and weak, has been ill for a long time, or has insufficient vital energy, the manipulation should not be too heavy. Instead, the method of lifting and inserting, equal supplementation and equal drainage should be used, and other acupoints should be used to obtain qi. The needles were retained for 20 minutes, during which time the needles were moved once to maintain an appropriate level of needle sensation. After removing the needle, perform gentle moxibustion on the large intestine point and Guanyuan point for 10 minutes. One course of treatment is 10 days of mild moxibustion combined with acupuncture. After one course of treatment, you should rest for 2 days before starting the next course.
