Why is my lower eyelid swollen?

Why is my lower eyelid swollen?

There are many possible reasons for the swelling of the lower eyelid. Since the eyes are very important organs, any abnormality will have a greater impact. However, it is difficult to determine the cause of a single symptom. It requires a comprehensive judgment based on other physical manifestations. Only by figuring out the cause can better treatment be provided. So, what causes swollen lower eyelids? Let’s take a closer look below.

Causes and common diseases 1. Physiological eyelid edema Physiological edema is mostly caused by poor sleep at night or a pillow that is too low when sleeping, which affects blood return to the face. This type of eyelid edema is more common in healthy people and often disappears spontaneously. 2. Pathological eyelid edema Pathological eyelid edema is divided into inflammatory eyelid edema and non-inflammatory eyelid edema. In addition to eyelid edema, the former also has local redness, heat, pain and other symptoms. The causes include acute eyelid inflammation, eyelid trauma, or periocular inflammation. Most of the latter do not have symptoms such as local redness, heat, and swelling. Common causes are allergic diseases or allergies to eye drops, heart disease, hypothyroidism, acute and chronic nephritis, and idiopathic neurovascular eyelid edema.

Differential diagnosis: Pay attention to distinguish whether the eyelid edema is physiological or pathological. If it is physiological, attention should be paid to health care. If the condition is pathological, you need to see a doctor to find out the cause to prevent it from becoming more serious. The examination should first rule out physiological eyelid edema, and then do a routine urine test and corresponding examinations based on the cause of the eyelid edema: such as improper use of cosmetics, skin diseases, heart and kidney dysfunction, angioedema, etc.

Treatment principles 1. Actively treat the primary disease such as eye inflammation and trauma; treat allergic diseases, heart disease, hypothyroidism, acute and chronic nephritis and other primary diseases that cause eyelid edema. 2. Symptomatic treatment
