What to do if your baby has water beans

Generally speaking, mothers are very worried if their babies get chickenpox. However, many mothers do not know how to take care of babies with chickenpox because it is their first time encountering this situation. Some people even use wrong methods to help their babies because they don’t know the treatment for chickenpox. In order to help more new mothers master how to deal with chickenpox, today we will introduce what mothers need to do after their baby has chickenpox.

What to do if your child gets chickenpox

1. Isolation to avoid infection: Because chickenpox is a highly contagious acute infectious disease, the main transmission routes are respiratory tract and direct contact. When a baby is diagnosed with chickenpox, if the baby attends kindergarten, mothers should take the baby home for isolation and treatment to avoid infecting other children in the school. Isolation should continue until all blisters are dry and crusted.

2. Open windows to promote air circulation: Air circulation can also kill viruses in the air. Of course, mothers should also pay attention to the temperature in the room not being too low to prevent the baby from catching cold and getting sick, and keep warm. In addition, sunlight in the room can use ultraviolet rays to kill viruses.

3. Baby's daily necessities should be disinfected separately for use: Clothes, bedding, towels, dressings, toys, and tableware that have come into contact with chickenpox herpes fluid should be washed, dried, ironed, boiled, or burned for disinfection according to the situation, and should not be shared with healthy adults. At the same time, you should change your clothes and bedding frequently to keep your skin clean.

  1. Avoid your baby from scratching the rash with his hands : When your baby has chickenpox, the skin will feel itchy, and the baby may accidentally scratch the rash, aggravating the infection. Therefore, mothers should take care to prevent their babies from scratching the acne on their face, hands, etc., so as to prevent the herpes from being scratched and becoming infected with pus. If the lesions are deep, they may leave scars. To prevent this from happening, keep your child's nails short and keep their hands clean. You can sew a pair of gloves with the raw edges facing outwards, or wrap his hands with gauze. If the herpes breaks, apply 1% gentian violet. If there is suppuration, apply antibiotic ointment.

Home care for children with chickenpox

    1. If there is no secondary infection, babies with chickenpox should rest in bed at home and drink plenty of water.

    2. If the body temperature is higher than 38.5℃, antipyretics should be used. Change your underwear frequently to keep your skin dry and clean.

    3. Cut your baby’s nails short to prevent infection due to itching and scratching.

    4. Apply anti-inflammatory ointment to the ruptured blisters.

    5. If the baby is severely itchy, he can take anti-allergic medicine.

    6. You can use the antiviral drug acyclovir for herpes virus, or you can apply acyclovir ointment on the blisters.

    7. If there is secondary infection, you should seek medical attention promptly and use antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor.

    8. If your baby has symptoms such as headache, vomiting, drowsiness, chest tightness, rapid heartbeat, cough, etc., you should take your baby to the hospital for treatment in time to avoid delaying the treatment.

    9. Some parents mistakenly believe that the more chickenpox the child has, the better, and therefore blindly give their children Chinese medicine for rash. This may result in dense chickenpox all over the body, making the condition worse. Children often feel unbearable itching, become irritable, and even scratch with their hands. Mild cases will leave scars, and severe cases may cause bacteria to enter the blood circulation from the local infection lesions, grow and multiply in the blood, and cause sepsis.

The varicella virus can remain dormant in the human body for a long time. Since it is the same virus as shingles, once the body's resistance is reduced, it will cause shingles, which is particularly prone to occur in the elderly. If the baby is taken care of by the elderly and they do not pay attention to hygiene, the disease will be transmitted to the baby and the baby will get chickenpox. Therefore, if an elderly person who is taking care of a baby is found to have shingles, they should immediately isolate themselves from the baby.
