What to do if there is a hole in the middle of the tooth

In addition to colds and fevers that can cause us to lose appetite and lose interest in delicious food, there is another situation that may make us lose interest in food, and that is dental problems. Think about it, if your teeth hurt and everything you eat hurts, would you still dare to eat? If you have a hole in your tooth, you can't eat not only hot food but also cold food. Would you still dare to eat? There are many types of tooth cavities. What should we do if there is a hole in the middle of our molars?

If there is tooth decay causing pulpitis or deep caries near the pulp, go to the hospital's oral department for examination. If it is pulpitis, root canal treatment can be performed and the tooth can be filled. If it is deep caries near the pulp, the tooth can be filled after the decay is removed and the base is padded and then used normally.

Acute pulpitis refers to acute inflammation of the dental pulp tissue caused mainly by bacterial infection. If the pulp infection is not controlled in time, toxins can cause apical infection through the apical foramen. The clinical characteristics of acute pulpitis are rapid onset and severe pain. General analgesics are ineffective. If not treated in time, it may develop into pulp necrosis in the later stage. This disease generally requires thorough endodontic treatment to be cured. In the acute phase, pulpotomy and medication can be used to relieve pain.

Clinical manifestations

1. Spontaneous paroxysmal pain

The pain is severe and often occurs suddenly. It is intermittent in the early stages, usually lasting for a few minutes, followed by an interval of several hours. As the disease progresses, the attack period becomes longer and the interval period becomes shorter, gradually turning into continuous severe pain that radiates along the distribution area of the three nerves, and it is often impossible to clearly point out the location of the lesion.

2. Night pain

The pain is often severe at night and worse when lying down.

3. Temperature stimulation affects pain

Stimulation by cold, heat, or acidic substances can stimulate or aggravate pain, and the pain is more obvious when exposed to cold. When purulent inflammation worsens, the pain is aggravated by heat, while cold can relieve the pain. This is because gas is produced in the dental pulp, which expands when heated, causing the pressure in the pulp cavity to increase, resulting in severe pain. On the contrary, cold air or cool water can relieve pain, mainly by shrinking the volume of gas, reducing pressure and relieving pain.

4. Often accompanied by dental caries

During examination, it is often found that the patient's teeth have cavities, which are obviously painful when touched with a probe.

treat

1. Medication

In general, antibiotics and analgesics can be used for symptomatic treatment.

2. Surgery

In order to preserve the vital pulp or save the affected tooth, emergency treatment may be pulpotomy and decompression. After rinsing with warm salt water, place analgesics such as camphor phenol, eugenol or toothache water in the caries cavity with a small cotton ball to temporarily relieve the pain. At the same time, take anti-inflammatory and analgesics. After the pain is relieved for 1 to 2 days, choose treatment according to the specific situation:

(1) Pulpotomy.

(2) Apexification.

(3) Root canal treatment.

(4) Affected teeth that have no value in being retained can be extracted to reduce the patient’s pain and prevent the disease from spreading further.
