What should I do if there is a hole after the wisdom tooth is extracted?

The encyclopedia explains that wisdom teeth are teeth that grow abnormally due to insufficient space on the teeth. In simple terms, they are extra teeth. For many people, wisdom teeth grow sideways, thus squeezing the adjacent teeth and causing tooth shape changes. This is a big challenge for people who love beauty. Some people’s wisdom teeth will be very painful. Doctors usually recommend that we remove the wisdom teeth, but what should we do if there is a hole after the wisdom teeth are removed?

After a tooth is extracted, it will go through four stages: blood clot formation to protect the wound; granulation tissue sprouts; connective tissue appears; wound healing and tooth bone maturation, and finally the wound will heal. However, during the wound healing process, there are many things we need to pay attention to:

Within 24 hours after tooth extraction, the blood clot forms and solidifies. Remember not to brush your teeth during this period. If the patient is in a hurry to rinse his mouth and brush his teeth, the blood clot may be washed away, causing bleeding, or even causing an empty tooth socket, triggering the painful "dry socket" and prolonging the recovery time of dental health.

In terms of diet, you should pay attention to eating some liquid food and never irritate the wound, such as eating too hard or too hot food. Hot food will cause blood vessels to dilate and make it easy to bleed, while too hard food will cause mechanical stimulation and aggravate the damage to the wound.

During the entire wound healing process, we pay attention to avoiding external trauma and preventing bacterial infection inside the oral cavity. Although it is best not to touch the wound with a toothbrush, you can use saline solution to clean your mouth to achieve the effect of disinfection. Once the blood clot disappears and connective tissue begins to appear, you should brush your teeth every morning and evening and rinse your mouth after meals to ensure that food debris does not get stuck around the wound.

It takes about three months for the tooth cavity to heal, and the most critical period is within one week after the wisdom tooth is extracted. Although it is protected by a blood clot, it is very fragile and can be easily broken off by a slight external stimulus. During the wound healing period, be careful to prevent food debris from being stuck around the tooth cavity for a long time. This will not only breed bacteria and cause oral inflammation, but also delay the healing time of the wound.

Since wisdom teeth are at the innermost part, they are not easy to clean with daily brushing and are prone to tooth decay. Wisdom teeth often cause swelling and pain due to insufficient space for eruption, and they may also invade adjacent teeth and cause toothache. In addition, due to the lack of opposing teeth, wisdom teeth sometimes over-erupt, thus affecting the bite; sometimes they do not erupt enough and become impacted teeth, causing malocclusion, pericoronal infection, and difficulty opening the mouth. So don’t worry about leaving cavities after wisdom teeth are removed and don’t remove them. This will instead cause more and more serious oral diseases.
