Scalp and ear pain

Scalp and ear pain

Scalp and ear pain are early symptoms of otitis media, because otitis media not only causes scalp pain in patients, but may also cause itchy eyes, tingling and itching in the ears, and may be accompanied by symptoms of nose soreness. Otitis media can cause multiple diseases to be involved, so everyone must protect the health of their nose.

Question 1: What are the types of otitis media and how does chronic otitis media occur?

Domestic otitis media classification is divided into:

1. Acute otitis media

1. Acute non-suppurative otitis media,

2. Acute suppurative otitis media,

3. Acute necrotizing otitis media,

4. acute mastoiditis);

2. Chronic otitis media

1. Chronic non-suppurative otitis media,

2. Chronic suppurative otitis media);

3. Cholesteatoma otitis media

1. Acquired primary cholesteatoma,

2. acquired secondary cholesteatoma);

4. Sequelae of otitis media

1. Perforation of the eardrum,

2. Adhesive otitis media,

3. Tympanosclerosis.

Acute otitis media is mostly caused by Eustachian tube obstruction after a cold, abnormal nose blowing, or retrograde reflux of water from swimming that causes bacteria to enter the tympanic cavity through the Eustachian tube, or by conditional pathogens in the tympanic cavity that produce an inflammatory response when their resistance is weakened or their virulence is enhanced, manifested as ear pain (worsened at night), fever, and even pus discharge from the ear canal. According to statistics, most people will experience acute otitis media, either mild or severe, at some point in their lives. If the acute phase is not treated thoroughly, it will turn into chronic otitis media. Depending on the physical condition and climate changes, the ear will often discharge fluid, which may be more or less and may last for many years.

Chronic otitis media can generally be divided into chronic suppurative otitis media and chronic non-suppurative otitis media. The latter is also called secretory otitis media or middle ear effusion, which later turns into glue ear. Symptoms vary depending on the classification. For example, the main symptom of chronic suppurative otitis media is pus discharge accompanied by hearing loss. The nature of pus can be divided into purulent and mucopurulent. If purulent secretions are accompanied by a foul odor, it often indicates the combined formation of cholesteatoma; if the mucopurulent secretions are odorless, it may be chronic simple otitis media.

Question 2: What serious complications can chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma otitis media cause?

Otitis media can cause a variety of complications, some of which can be fatal.

Otitis media itself can damage the inner ear, causing vertigo and even complete deafness. The ear has two functions: one is hearing, the other is balance. The inner ear is responsible for hearing and balance. If the inner ear is damaged, the patient will feel dizzy and even feel vertigo when sitting. He can only rest in bed and dare not open his eyes. In severe cases, the cochlea may be destroyed and total deafness may occur, which brings great inconvenience to the patient's life.

Otitis media can even cause fatal complications. There is only a very thin layer of bone between the tympanic cavity and mastoid tectum and the brain. If this layer of bone tissue is destroyed by cholesteatoma, the inflammation can easily invade the outside of the meninges and form an epidural abscess. Further infection may cause meningitis, intradural abscess, brain abscess, etc.
