Why can't you pull out your tooth when it hurts?

Although toothache is not a serious illness, as the saying goes, "Toothache is not a disease, but it can be fatal when it hurts." I believe everyone has heard this saying. In fact, this is true. Toothache causes severe pain to patients. Some friends who have toothache even want to have their teeth pulled out immediately when the pain occurs. There are indeed people in life who can't bear the pain and ask the doctor to pull out their teeth, but they are told that teeth cannot be pulled out when they have a toothache. Many people will have questions about this. Why can't teeth be pulled out when they have a toothache?

1. Why can’t you pull out your tooth when it hurts? Why doesn’t the dentist necessarily let you extract your tooth if you have a toothache?

If the swollen and painful area is infected and inflamed, there will be a lot of bacteria, pus and severe swelling. There will be a lot of bacteria hidden in the wound itself after the tooth is extracted. Even if you take medicine and flush, it is often impossible to keep it completely clean.

If the infection continues to expand, it may develop into cellulitis. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required and it may even be fatal. Tooth extraction is absolutely not recommended when the inflammation and pain are like this.

Before extracting a tooth, you need to clean and rinse the area first, take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs for three days, and then have the tooth extracted after the swelling subsides. Even if the swelling does not subside within three days, you must continue to take the medicine.

2. Can all toothaches not be removed? But not all toothaches cannot be cured. If the pain is caused by tooth decay, there is usually no excessive infection or suppuration, and the tooth can be extracted directly when it has no functional value. Most root canal abscesses can be extracted. However, if the gum inflammation and suppuration are related to periodontal disease, the entire gum will swell. In this case, you need to clean your teeth and take medication, just like periodontitis, and then wait for the swelling to subside before extracting the tooth.

3. Notes

Therefore, in most cases of swelling and suppuration, teeth cannot be extracted directly for the safety of patients. Please be patient and clean, take medicine and wait for the swelling to subside before removing it. If the swelling and pain become more and more severe during the waiting process or even a fever develops, the swelling may spread to other parts of the face. It could be cellulitis and you need to return for a checkup as soon as possible or go to a large hospital for emergency treatment.
