Myoma is a disease name in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a superficial venous disease characterized by purple tendons, slightly high temperature, bulging blue veins, coiling and protruding like worms, and producing low echo areas. Myomas are more common in the lower limbs, which can be seen in the low-echo areas of the veins produced by varicose veins in the lower limbs in modern science. It is more common in workers who stand for long periods of time or pregnant women, and is often seen in the calves of the lower limbs.

Initially, you will feel soreness, discomfort and pain on the affected side, which is more obvious when you stand up and disappears when you walk or lie down. The veins on the affected side gradually dilate, the calf veins are twisted like cords, the veins are dark blue, and even worm-like. The tumor is soft in texture and can be reduced by pulling the affected side or squeezing it distally, but it will respond immediately if the affected side is relaxed or released. Some people experience swelling, burning sensation, tenderness and other symptoms at the swollen site. After treatment, the cord-like swelling becomes firmer. If the tumor is scraped, a lot of blood will be discharged, and the blood circulation can only be activated after the operated side is compressed or ligated. Patients with a long history of illness have skin atrophy, brown-black color, and are prone to secondary eczema and ecthyma (diffuse ulcers).

Hematomas are often discovered soon after birth and grow larger with age. The tumor is as small as a soybean or as large as a fist, with normal color, or dark red or blue-purple. The blood vessels that form the tumor are generally plexiform blood vessels or capillaries. Myomas are caused by varicose veins with thicker vessels. The tumors run along the main vein and coil around, resembling a long worm.

Treatment principle: Invigorate Qi; activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis, relax tendons and activate collaterals. Main formula: Buzhong Yiqi Decoction.

2. Dampness and coldness cause tendons to stagnate

Symptoms: The tumor is dark purple in color, likes warmth, and has slight swelling in the lower limbs; accompanied by cold body and limbs, tasteless but not dry mouth, and clear and long urine; the tongue is pale and dark, with white and greasy coating, and the pulse is deep and fine. Treatment principle: Warm the liver and dispel cold, nourish blood and dredge meridians. Main formula: Nuan Gan Jian combined with Danggui Sini Tang.

3. Traumatic stasis

Symptoms: Blue veins bulge out and coil like worms, the surface is dark blue, the affected side is swollen and painful; there are ecchymoses on the tongue, and the pulse is thin and wiry. Treatment principle: Promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, harmonize the circulation and reduce swelling. Main prescription: Huoxue Huayu Sanyu Decoction with modifications.

1. Bandage the affected side with an elastic bandage. Long-term use can sometimes shrink the tumor or stop its growth. For patients with high incidence of eczema and ecthyma, refer to the relevant Baidu entries for treatment.
