How to get rid of epicanthus naturally

Eyes are the windows to the soul. Everyone wants to have a pair of bright big eyes. Even a pair of beautiful eyes can improve one’s appearance. Nowadays, there are more and more eye beauty treatments, such as removing dark circles, removing wrinkles, and performing double eyelid surgery. Epicanthoplasty is when the eyelids at the inner corner of the eye are too wide, which may affect the patient's vision or affect the patient's aesthetic appearance. So what are the natural ways to get rid of epicanthus?

The epicanthus refers to a vertical skin fold in front of the inner canthus, which covers the inner canthus and makes the inner canthus angle artificially smaller than that of people without epicanthus. It also blocks part of the field of vision, making people with double faces only have "half-double" and affecting the beauty of the eyes.

There are two types of epicanthus: congenital and acquired. Congenital epicanthus is mostly bilateral and has a genetic trait. Severe cases are often accompanied by deformities such as ptosis and small palpebral fissures. Acquired medial canthus is mostly caused by trauma, burns, scalds, etc., is mostly unilateral, and is often accompanied by damage to adjacent tissues, such as lacrimal duct injury, medial canthal ligament injury, etc.

Clinically, epicanthus can be divided into simple epicanthus and complex epicanthus. The former is characterized by only epicanthus, slightly narrowed palpebral fissure, monolid or double eyelid, and no other deformities; the latter is accompanied by significantly narrowed palpebral fissure, thickening of eyelid skin and subcutaneous tissue, poor development of orbicularis oculi muscle, short and narrow tarsal plate, and often ptosis.

The purpose of epicanthus correction is to remove the skin folds at the inner corner of the eye, reveal the tear lake and enlarge the palpebral fissure. During treatment, surgical treatment is only required if simple epicanthus remains obvious after puberty. Generally, the epicanthus is performed at the same time as the double eyelid surgery. For mild cases, the excess skin can be directly cut and the skin incision can be sutured. For more serious cases, a "Z" shape reshaping or other skin flap repair method should be performed. Although there may be traces of incision left on the inner canthus skin after the operation, the enlarged palpebral fissure created by the operation will make the eyes look much more beautiful.

Common corrective surgery methods are as follows:

1. Medial canthal skin excision

It is suitable for patients with small-scale epicanthus. The method is to simply remove the excess skin at the medial canthus, peel it slightly, pull the medial canthus skin toward the back of the nose, expose the medial canthus angle, and then suture the skin. This surgical method is not very effective and is rarely used nowadays.

2. "YV" suture method

Suitable for patients with mild epicanthus. The method is to make a horizontal "Y"-shaped incision at the inner canthus. The size is determined as needed, and the upper and lower widths should generally be larger than the palpebral fissure. The skin flap is pulled toward the side of the nose and sutured. After suturing, the wound will be in a horizontal "V" shape.

3. Blair-Brown method

Suitable for patients with larger epicanthus. The method is to make an incision at the medial canthus, peel it into two triangular skin flaps, deep to the medial canthal ligament, suture the medial canthal ligament toward the nose, pull the tips of the two flaps toward the nose, suture them at the top of the transverse incision, and finally suture the edges of the skin wound in turn to form an "∈" shape.

4. Hiraga Method

Suitable for patients with epicanthus. The method is to make a “>” shaped incision at the medial canthus, peel off the skin flap, fix a stitch at the medial canthus, and loosen the skin. The protruding skin above and below the canthus is removed and then sutured into a "<" shape.

5. "Z" Plasty

Suitable for all patients with epicanthus. The method is to make a "Z"-shaped incision at the inner canthus, peel off the subcutaneous tissue around the incision, make two triangular skin flaps, exchange the positions of the two skin flaps, and then suture the edges of the skin wound. At present, there are many specific surgical methods in clinical practice. Generally, different "Z" shaping surgical methods are adopted according to the different conditions of the patients.

6.Mustarde's method (four-flap surgery)

This is the most commonly used surgical method with better curative effect. It is suitable for patients with inverted epicanthus combined with widened epicanthus, small palpebral fissures and ptosis. The method is to make four flaps at the inner canthus, exchange their positions and then suture them.

7. Speat flap correction

Suitable for patients with epicanthus and mild lower eyelid ectropion. The method is to make a tongue-shaped skin flap on the inner side of the upper eyelid at the inner canthus, rotate it and move it to the skin defect area of the lower eyelid after peeling it off, and suture the wound edge.
