What causes pain in the little finger?

Pain in the little finger is also quite common in life, which is often caused by some accidental injuries. If you don't pay attention to the bruise of your fingers, arthritis, bone hyperplasia, or rheumatoid arthritis may cause pain in the little finger. If the pain is severe, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. You should pay attention to keeping warm and use massage and other methods to relieve it.

What causes pain in the little finger?

1. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is caused by tissue degeneration and cumulative strain and is the most common joint disease. Osteoarthritis is most likely to affect the distal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the hands, the knees, elbows, shoulders, and spinal joints, while the wrist and ankle joints are less likely to be affected.

2. Bone hyperplasia

Pain and swelling in the finger joints, with bony growths (bone spurs) in the joints. It often occurs at the finger joints, but can also occur at the joints between the fingers. Hyperplastic arthritis usually occurs in older people, often over 40 years old, first appearing in one or several fingers, and then affecting other fingers. The affected joints may become red, swollen and painful.

3. Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is also one of the causes of finger joint pain. The proximal joints of the fingers are often affected, and there is morning stiffness (stiff fingers in the morning, difficulty making a fist). The proximal joints of the fingers are often affected, and generally there are multiple joint pains, which are often symmetrical and wandering. Laboratory tests and X-ray examinations showed bone damage and positive rheumatoid factor.

4. Cold and dampness or overwork

Finger joint pain may also be general joint pain caused by cold and dampness or strain (such as tenosynovitis, etc.). People who work with their fingers for long periods of time are more likely to suffer from tenosynovitis, which is caused by the friction between the tendons, causing inflammation of the tendon sheath and pain.

How to relieve little finger joint pain

1. Take adequate rest

Work and live within the scope permitted by the condition. Do not expose the affected joints to excessive weight, moisture, cold, or excessive fatigue, and avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time. The knee joint should not be kept in a certain position for a long time, and the joint should be moved appropriately.

2. Eliminate factors of joint strain

Obese patients should control their diet and reduce their weight; or insist on taking a car more often (including riding a bicycle) and walking less, especially avoiding going up and down stairs and walking on uneven roads.

3. Physical therapy

It can relieve pain and muscle spasms, help improve blood circulation and reduce swelling. You can apply hot compress, preferably moist heat. Hot air baths and hot spring baths can also be used.

4. Medication

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics are still commonly used and effective drugs for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Commonly used drugs include ibuprofen, naproxen, ibuprofen, and voltaren. Drugs such as aspirin, indomethacin, and phenylbutazone should be used with caution because of their significant side effects.
